We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Please don’t tell me that you just knew that out of the top of your head!!

I spent quite awhile in Google reading up on ‘The Hollow Man’ and T.S. Eliot.

Have a number of graphics saved.

Recalling a trip he made to Vietnam in 1991, Hirsh reported that he found a nation looking to the West and capitalism, adding that “today Vietnam remains” only “nominally communist.”

Two very, very large holes in Hirsch's theory:

1. A person visiting West germany in 1950 would have found a nation with no trace of Nazism, but that wouldn't have meant the Holocaust was any less horrible than reported.

2. About 165,000 people were worked to death in the re-educationcamps. I guess that in Hirsch's book, those arent a big deal.

Oh man, I'm a moron. Missed this paragraph completely:

To that, Taranto astutely observed: “Never mind Vietnam's and Laos's 're-education' camps; never mind Cambodia's killing fields. It is as if one visited West Germany in 1960, found a prosperous democracy, and reached positive conclusions about the 'aftermath' of Nazi rule. It misses the point by a light-year.”

Great minds think alike.

No surprise that Field Marshall Reid has it 100% bass-ackwards.

My wife watches the reality show "Project Runway." The designer who won the second season was Chloe Dao, a Laotian who came here as a refugee when she was a young girl.

The Dao family was put in "family prison" by the Laotian government for trying to leave the country without approval. Family prison. My God...

May I offer my sincerest apologies?

The jackass is indeed a useful, noble, yet humble, beast, with a sweet disposition. It in no way deserves comparison with Jay Effin’ Kay.

Are you a turtle?

You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.

Lot of eggs got broken in the Twentieth Century, and nothing like a decent omelet to show for it.
