Yes, and he was cautioned for proselytizing on Army time for the same reason they didn’t send out these ‘care’ packages.

The group has staged a number of Christian-themed shows at military bases, featuring athletes, strongmen and actor-turned-evangelist Stephen Baldwin. But thanks in part to the support of the Pentagon, Operation Straight Up has now begun focusing on Iraq, where, according to its website (on pages taken down last week), it planned an entertainment tour called the "Military Crusade."

Marvellous. When George Bush called for a crusade against terrorism, sensible people took it as a mere metaphor. Mohammadans claimed it was coded for attempt to convert The Middle East to Christianity. Sensible peoople diuscounted those claims as nonsense.

Now we have these idiots in Operation Gay Up making it look like the Mohhamedans weren't being paranoid alarmists.

Great way to lose all suppport for the USA in the rest of the world.

PJ O'Rorke had it right - any actor with the last name of Baldwin should be in the "Enemies List"

Possession of pornography over there is punishable under UCMJ.

Nice try, though.

So, you could send “care packages” stock full of pornographic magazines and books as well as extremely violent video games to our soldiers.

No, you can't do that either. The Army is pretty fair, you just don't like it that they aren't on board your personal hobby horse.

Religion: The opium of the people

More accurately:
"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, just as it is the spirit of a spiritless situation. It is the opium of the people."
Karl Marx, Communist political philosopher (1818 - 1883), Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right
Any other Marxist tidbits you'd like to share with us?

If you’re a Christian, why do you have such a negative tag line? You seem to be a very angry Christian and I’m sorry that you are.

EVERY Christian is told to take the gospel to all nations.

That is not a soldiers' job. Now what?

I had a supervisor who gave out bad reviews to people who didn't attend prayer breakfasts with him.

If it is actually true, of course not.

Sheesh. You’re so wrapped around the axle.

A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five. Marx, Groucho

I dunno.... I'm an NCO with 16 years in the Army. Are you calling me a liar?

Godly.... Very Godly.....

The Army and particularly the AF has had problems with this before, it shouldn't be a shock to you. It's rare, but it happens....

Well then pack your bags because it is NOT the job of US military personnel to do it while engaged in combat. Caramelgal, mrhansen and Cogadh (sorry for the misspell)have it right.

In the first GW we had General Order 1 which prohibited certain “offensive” materials from being sent and religious material were on the list, even personal materials. I’m sure they have some similar order in place although the US servicemember is a resourceful sort and will find a way to get around a lot of this as did we in our go around back in ‘90-’91.

It is NOT the Pentagon’s (hence every taxpayer) job to pay the mailing costs for religious materials. You can do so on your own dime if you so choose and if the military postal service kicks it back, so be it.

See, the violence is good because it is a ‘spiritual warfare’ kind of violence... Didn’t Al Qaeda already make a video game with the same kind of message - that violence is alright, so long as it is done in the name of religion?

First, radical Islam and Christianity are only equal in the most ignorant/leftist/idiotic minds. Look at what radical Islam has wrought. Look at what Judeo-Christian beliefs have built (see the United States, in case you're wondering.) Not equal - not even close - despite your weak attempt at moral relativism.

Second, in the Left Behind video game, the "Rapture" has already happened and PROVED that particular Christian belief was right and, therefore, in that setting Christianity was right, the world is at an end, and the forces of evil are to be fought. Taking the "violence" in Left Behind out of context is what the leftist media did in order to continue their unending attacks on Christianity. Why are you doing so? Are you going to start spouting Karl Marx quotes like another poster already has?

Yeah, those awful Christians. They just want to spread the gospel, mrhansen, like God tells Christians to do. Argue it with God. He’s the boss, not us or not you.

It's a joke on the people on the motorcycle threads who ask me if I am an organ donor 'cuz I ride a motorcycle. I should probably change it, but it's kinda funny....

It wasn’t a quote. That requires “...”

That punctuation is called an ellipsis.

The exact quote is: "Die Religion ... ist das Opium des Volkes." Either it was an accidentally perfect quote of Marx or you're reinventing the communist antipathy toward religion independently.

In any event, you have every right not to believe in religion or to scoff at it. But it is un-American to ridicule the free exercise of religion by other Americans, an inalienable right guaranteed under the First.

If you are a soldier, you swore an oath to the Constitution, including its Bill of Rights.

OK, let me put in a syllogism for you:

It is the duty of Christians to spread the Gospel.
Soldiers may not spread the Gospel while in uniform
Therefore soldiers cannot be Christians.

Why don't you support the troops?
