Thompson has staked out positions on abortion, gay marriage, and the first amendment that would earn him the undying scorn and unrelenting enmity of the FRedheads who now praise and genuflect before him if he were from a northern state or had a Midwestern accent.

And they accuse Romney of being phony.

I am concerned we are about to have a repeat of Dole vs Clinton.

It is terrifying to me that some so-called conservatives have no regard for states’ rights.

An earlier poster was correct, states' rights were terminated at Antietam Courthouse in 1865 for all practical purposes, and were buried 3 years later by ratification of the 14th Amendment.

And if the Constitution is not amended to protect traditional man-woman marriage, the sure to come patchwork of conflicting state marriage laws will soon become the worst legal nightmare imaginable. As a previous poster pointed out earlier, the list of complex legal problems and intractable complications that a hodgepodge of state marriage laws will create in a highly mobile society like ours is almost endless. Many same-sex couples who married in one state will lose that legal standing when they move to another state, thereby soon creating a demand for an amendment to protect the validity of same sex marriages in all states.

If and when that ever happens you will find that federalism is not only dead as a doornail, it's final death rattle will have been caused by that hodgepodge of state marriage laws that you want to allow in the name of that very same federalism.

You're right one one point at least, Fred has staked out his position on abortion, and he did so by his voting record in the Senate.

His 100% pro-life A rating by the National Right to Life organization, the largest and most influential politically active pro-life org in the US, shows on which side of the issue he drove those stakes. All attempts to improperly place him on the pro-abort side of that issue have been debunked in detail many times over on FR, yet the same old accusations are still being made by his enemies.

No, treason was erased.

Either George Washington -and- Jeff Davis were traitors...or they were both Jeffersonian Americans exercising their natural right to throw off the government when it went to their throats.

For good or ill, The Confederates lost the military conflict, allowing their history to be written by their enemies.

'Treasonous' Benedict Arnold would be an "American Hero" today had the King been victorious in his war to put down that rebellion, and 'the father of our country' Geo. Washington, would be synonymous with treason.

Same as the legal tradition, "Loser Pays."

I have had my fill of them, this amnesty bill was the last straw. No more part conservatives part liberals for me .

If this nation has to fall, I will no longer be a part of it . I helped do enough in last few elections . Your either conservative or your not, plain and simple ,imo. In the past 50 years I have witnessed the slow death of the greatest nation on earth . I don’t even recognize most of it anymore. “Behead Those Who Insult Islam “ , “LaRaza ,aka,THE RACE “ . Atzlan , spanish PRESS ONE! I feel robbed .

>I know, it’s refreshing to see someone actually adhering to the Founders’ vision. The US was never meant to be a place where all states were carbon copies of each other.<

I doubt very much that the Founders ever would have dreampt to legislate God’s law about marriage one way or the other. Marriage = one man + one woman. Anything else is an abomination to our Creator.
