Index map showing the location of the Wabar meteorite impact site in the Empty Quarter (Ar-Rub' Al-Khali) desert of Saudi Arabia. Harry St. John (Abdullah) Philby reported the visual siting of a huge fireball passing over the then-mud-walled town of Riyadh in 1863, heading in the direction of what we now know to be the Wabar site.

Do you have a date on that crater? We have the one linked below in Iraq at about 2200BC. Maybe a swarm?

http://www.saudiaramcoworld.com/issue/200602/volcanic.arabia.htm

Al-Wahbah crater, nearly two kilometers (1.2 mi) wide, is a maar crater, formed not by volcanic eruption but by the collision of rising volcanic material with an underground body of water, resulting in a colossal release of steam—an event geologists call a phreatic explosion...

this aramcoworld article shows location also. Impact site? Now doubtful. Never heard of a phreatic explosion, have you?

"So it is likely that the Wabar calamity happened only 135 years ago. Perhaps the grandfathers of Philby’s guides saw the explosion from a long way off. "

Hmmmm.

I don't know about phreatic explosions, could be anti-impactor bias.

Oman makes more sense to me too. More resources, especially water and agriculture.
