You should chisle that in stone, so you can choke on it when the time comes.
The title you assigned the author belongs to you!

Urban Renewal driven by Jihad, but indirectly by the Feds. Lower initial costs than the War on Poverty days.

With the amount of active and retired Army on my block it would be a little hot for looters turning the corner looking for easy pickings.

Most are Korean War and VN vets. I don’t think a gang of looters is going to strike much fear in this bunch.

Of course the younger active guys from the recent fight would have to brush the older guys up on modern house to house fighting. Old farts might be slow but their aim is still good. :-)

"Rescuers were all over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in hours, not days" I'm not so sure the US would respond the same. After all we are now "diverse". We aren't getting our fair share of illegals from Japan and we aren't on a war time footing. Katrina was no picnic for those not willing to help themselves... and the piece de resistance - would you rush to help the pols in D.C.?

No government services for months? Baloney

In the aftermath of a disaster some inner cities deteriorate into anarchy and government services are scarce or unavailable. Remember New Orleans and the Superdome. Multiply that by the number of cities hit.

I had a close relative that worked on Capitol Hill until recently and he said the same thing. He believes this will happen so much, that he moved his family from the DC area to a small Midwestern town.

I have a number of relatives and close friends living and working in DC and its first-ring suburbs.

They don't share your relative's cowardice in the face of terrorist threats, and at least two of them have considerably more insight into the risks involved.

As for me, I will continue to work in midtown NYC every day and raise my kids 17 miles away from downtown NYC.

I hear things too, from people who would know. Without giving details, I will say that this is not easily dismissed as fear mongering.

Anyone who is counting on Gummint to save us from any catastrophic event - from attack to natural disaster to economic collapse - is living in a dreamland.....

And they also should not count on Social (in)Security, air traffic control, publik skools, and virtually any other thing that gubmint touches......the fastest way to expensive failure is to let the gubmint be in charge.....

It seems the “high-level government operative” doesn’t mention turning mecca to glass?

you can believe what you want. But what I know for fact is that the person I am referring to has far more knowledge than you or I or the general public will ever have, and is no way a coward having spent 25+ years in the military. Enough said at this end.

Why wouldn't we do better than the war-scarred Japanese?

Fear and panic would do far more damage than any nuke the Islamo-facists could whip up. What we would see is skyrocketing gas prices, quickly followed by everything associated with gasoline, i.e., food, clothing, raw materials, etc.

The one place I’d be in an attack, is DC.

Probably right. Why would the terrorists attack pelosi and Reid - their best friends?

” skyrocketing gas prices, quickly followed by everything associated with gasoline, i.e., food, clothing, raw materials, etc. “

Already happening — just in slo-mo, for now.. (I refer you to Walmart and Home Depot’s warnings yesterday).

We’re balanced on a pinpoint.

Simply a remix of every generality that goes bump in the night. The distinct lack of specifics is the key to knowing that this piece was not the writer’s most informed effort. That and the split effing infinitives.

I have taken it for granted, more and more in the years since 9/11 that this scenario or something similar is inevitable. Most of those living today in the obvious target cities, NY, DC, Chicago, LA, the SF area obviously do not believe this. I expect that they will have no surviving dependents.

The media and government never told the people all that went on after Andrew.

There was not an appreciable rise in murders or rapes or assaults after Andrew.

There was, and my great aunt can confirm, a great deal of theft and a general breakdown in law and order as far as property was concerned.

A dirty bomb detonation would cover a much smaller area than the vast swaths of land that Andrew devastated. If it were to occur in NYC, there would 30,000 NYC police on the scene reporting to one man as opposed to the much smaller and decentralized forces in Dade County.

The combination of much larger police resources and a much smaller area of devastation would simply not be the same as an Andrew or Katrina situation. Moreover, the Feds would be able to go in immediately, since they would be dealing with an act of war and not a natural disaster.

I also doubt that many people would be interested in running toward a nuclear blast site in order to loot.

There is no real comparison between the two scenarios.

Citizens should always be prepared in case of an emergency - but that's not what this guy is saying.

He is saying: give up, it's hopeless, millions will die and there is nothing we can do.

There is plenty we can do: we can be prepared and alert, we can give the Feds the tools they need to track down terrorist scum and dismantle their networks.

I have kids up there. They are safer there than where I live which is next door to the biggest naval base in the world.

I live in the DC metro area. The terrorists target symbols not military targets per se. Just as they came back to take down the WTC, they will try again to take out the Capitol and the WH. In terms of terrorist targets, you are safer than your children.
