And there was such a rush to kill her as if Michael, Greer, and their groupies feared there might be hope for her.
Oh really? That's not what Michael Schiavo said.
I wonder what Michael spent the $1575 from the Valentine’s Day dance on.
Who knows? But I can assure you, now that he’s danced the dance, some day he will have to pay the piper.

KANSAS CITY - A man threw his seriously ill wife four stories to her death because he could no longer afford to pay for her medical care, prosecutors said in charging him with second-degree murder.
According to court documents filed Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court, Stanley Reimer walked his wife to the balcony of their apartment and kissed her before throwing her over.
The body of Criste Reimer, 47, was found Tuesday night outside the apartment building, near the upscale Country Club Plaza shopping district.

Marlene Medina faces new charges after quipping that her manslaughter charges were "not too bad" and that she would "be out in three to five" when she was arrested after her daughter, Hailey aged 21 months, was taken off of life support.
Medina made the comments when she was arrested after Hailey's death which happened 6 days after the child was hospitalized. Police say Edwin Garcia shook Hailey then slammed her into the crib leaving her "foaming at the mouth and wheezing."
Medina then waited 5 hours before calling 911. "Here's a woman who has really shown no remorse at all. None," said Hailey's grandmother. Medina now faces up to 15 years in prison. Garcia faces 55 years for murder and both are being held without bail.

Anita Creamer with the San Francisco Bee bemoans our resistance to dying with dignity, perhaps like the lady kissed and tossed in the above post.

Slowly but surely, the political and emotional conversation about the issue of life has begun to shift from the realm of birth control to death control.
But maybe the fundamental question remains the same: Who's in charge of our lives, anyway?
It's the baby boomers' fault, of course: That generation, still largely concerned with aging cute and looking young, is only now beginning to comprehend what it means to grow old with dignity -- and to die with dignity.

We choose up sides when extreme and highly publicized cases come along -- when Jack Kevorkian, Michigan's controversial death doctor, was on trial for ending lives in the 1990s, for instance; or even more appallingly, when poor Terri Schiavo, the Florida woman who languished in a vegetative state for 15 years, became a political pawn in 2005.

La Crosse County Circuit Judge Scott Horne will hear arguments today in the case of a guardian seeking the courts permission to withdraw a La Crosse womans life-sustaining treatment. Todays hearing is on whether he should exclude medical testimony about persistent vegetative state, and perhaps consider Wisconsin Right to Lifes request to dismiss the case.
THE CASE: A woman in her 50s is being kept alive at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center by continuous sedation and a feeding tube. She has had seven strokes since 1995, the most recent caused a violent dementia. She refuses to eat or drink, and tore out feeding tubes in the past, so she must be sedated to continue feeding her, her doctors said. The womans family wants Gundersen Lutheran to cease life-sustaining treatment.
THE LAW: A guardian has no authority in Wisconsin to make that kind of treatment or lack of treatment decision unless the patient is in a persistent vegetative state or has expressed wishes through a conversation or advance directive.
AGREED FACTS: The woman is not in a persistent vegetative state and doesnt have an advance directive.
GUARDIANS ARGUMENT: Robyn Shapiro, a Milwaukee attorney representing the guardian, said the womans medicated condition is functionally equivalent to persistent vegetative state. When the woman was competent, her actions showed she placed a high value on her personal dignity, Shapiro said. A amended petition filed in court says the woman once had commented she didnt want to live like Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged Florida woman who became the focus of a national right-to-die battle. She died in March 2005 two weeks after her feeding tube was removed.
THE OTHER SIDE: Dan Watson, appointed adversarial attorney to represent the opposing side, and Fabio Burgess, who represents the womans interests, said ending life-sustaining treatment is not an option under Wisconsin law because the woman is not in a persistent vegetative state and never clearly expressed her wishes. The Wisconsin Right to Life asked Wednesday to intervene in the case and argue the woman should continue to be treated.

LaCrosse, WI (LifeNews.com) -- Wisconsin Right to Life has filed a legal motion to attempt to intervene on the behalf of a disabled woman there who has become the target of euthanasia. The guardian of the LaCrosse women has requested the withdrawal of nutrition and hydration that could lead to a painful death similar to Terri Schiavo.
The woman is named Marilyn and in her 50s and she has had several strokes and has dementia. However, she is believed not to be terminally ill and is not dying, the pro-life group told LifeNews.com.

Huckabee said he opposed federal intervention in the case of Terri Schiavo, the comatose Florida woman whose husband wanted to allow to die after 15 years in a vegetative state. Religious conservatives fought to have her kept alive and sought help from Republicans in Congress and the Bush administration. Huckabee saw it as a states rights issue.
"It troubles me when the Congress or any federal entity involves itself in anything that clearly has historically been a state issue," he said.

RU486 or RU against it?
WASHINGTON, August 16, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Misleading conclusions are being drawn in news stories based on a study that has indicated that the RU486 abortion drug is no more dangerous than surgical abortions. Misleading major media headlines include: Time magazines Study Finds Abortion Pill Safe, the Chicago Tribunes Study: Abortion Pill Doesnt Increase Risks and the New York Posts Abortion Pill Gets all Clear.
"Reporters are drawing the erroneous conclusion that this study means RU486 is completely safe. That's not what the study says, and nothing could be further from the truth," said Operation Rescue Senior Policy Advisor Cheryl Sullenger. "Women are dying at an alarming rate from RU486 abortions and its widespread misuse in the abortion industry. That has not changed."

New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- The Associated Press was quick to seize on a story Thursday that wrongly claims the dangerous abortion drug RU 486 poses no medical risks for women. However, the international news service went further by writing a biased news article claiming abortions do not cause future infertility or sterility problems.
In his article, "Study Finds No Risk from Abortion Pills" AP reporter Mike Stobbe claims "previous research has shown surgical abortions don't increase the risk of problems in later pregnancies."

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 made civil rights a federal issue and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 certainly made cases such as Terri's a federal issue.
Lots of things are federal issues that many people feel should be state issues, but that doesn't change the fact that they are federal issues. The libertarian Terri wants to die crowd probably would have been up in arms at Abraham Lincoln about illegally taking people's property even though that property happened to be a human being.

Correction to Huckabee: it was not only religious conservatives who fought to keep her alive. There were others also who were horrified at what was being done. Germany even offered to care for Terri for free.
I know of cases, rare though they may be, where the doctors have given up all hope and yet the patient has recovered. To me the dignified way is to err in favor of life.
