Why should I believe the gubmit will ever willingly remove from it’s repertoire of powers the power to with hold income taxes from our paycheck?

You're right they won't do it willingly. Americans For Fair Taxation knows politicians don't lead, they follow. The purpose behind The AFFT increasingly strong grassroots effort is to put relentless pressure on politicians including Fred Thompson.

>> George Bush has said : There were no WMD’s
George Bush has said : Saddam had no connection to 9-11
Now we both know those statements are untrue.

Don’t presume to put words in my mouth. I don’t believe that either of W’s statements were, or are, false. WMD’s were found. Evidence of Saddam’s support of the 9-11 terrorists was found.

The rest of your response is a load of moonbat rubbish.

Goodbye!

Where would this “black market” be located?

I have no doubt there will be a black market for goods. There's always going to be people that get pleasure out of getting away with something. I'm not sure how big it will be though. Taxes on the sale of cigarettes must be close to 100% (including Fed and state) in a lot of states. I'd bet most cigarettes are purchased legally with all taxes paid. Chances are the same thing would happen with most everything else a person buys. Small stuff is too small to mess with trying to cheat on, and big stuff (cars, boats, stuff like that) is too hard to get away with cheating.

I call BS. This is an edited (very poorly) video, where he asked some quastion, cut to another scene (background noise splits, easy fix, this person didn’t even try to fix that). If anyone believes this video for a second, they are looney. Maybe he supports it, maybe he doesn’t. He has said recently that he is open to learn more about ‘Fair Tax’, but never got close to endorsing it, and I do not think he will.

And who says any of those taxes are going to go away just because a flat tax is adopted?

Do you really believe they will take away all the other taxes and just leave us with one? I do not.

And even if you are correct, then I will revise my 10% and say “10% with NO other federal taxes.” So my proposal looks even better than “23% with no other federal taxes.”

I base my 10% on the fact if 10% is good enough for God, then 10% ought to be more than good enough for government.

Since the taxes on an item are only collected from the original purchaser, an "after-tax" car has more value than a "pre-tax" car

Good points. In some states this system exists in a primitive form - for example, casual sales are not taxed, only dealer transactions ( Arizona, for instance ).

I always thought it could be worked out. The main thing is that people in the legislature's don't understand this aspect, so they've never looked at doing it. At least not that I've been aware of.

Now did you think before you posted. read your post again.
Don't let emotions cloud your judgment. read your own post. G W said they were not. We know differently.
Think man, don't run away from logic.
I know it is hard sometimes.

How is getting Hillary elected and allowing the Clintons to dance around the 22nd amendment “defending the constitution”?

Vote for anyone except Ron Paul and watch it get violated.

You could fill oceans with what the people in the legislatures don't understand.

The Fair Tax may be good for the country, ultimately, but it’s going to mess me up seriously. The way I have my deductions organized, I don’t pay nearly that much now.

Tourette syndrome? Hardly. That was pretty mild compared to how I really feel about Ron Paul’s stubborn isolationism and the moonbats and Truthers who constitute the majority of his support.

If I used the language that first comes to mind I’d get banned for sure.

I generally appreciate Ron Paul’s stance on fiscal matters.

But he’s not presidential material. His isolationism would get us all killed. Fortunately, although he’s got a veritable army of robo-activists prowling the Internet (we haven’t seen any here, have we?), his support is in the noise, where it should be. He ain’t gonna make it.

That is the difference between us and the rest of the world, sometimes we take one "for the team", to help everyone else.
It is why our Military is all volunteer.

The sales tax I've paid doesn't increase the value of the car. Fair tax paid WOULD.
Taxing increases value?

Social security is included in the 23%. IIRC, it represents over one third of the rate.

Yes they are using marginal rates for both income and retail sales taxes. In the next paragraph, they use effective rates on the income tax and retail sales tax.

Well that’s a problem for me. SS should be kept separate. I’m not happy with the current system either. I don’t think the IRS should have anything to do with SS taxes.

If you factor in the rate of taxes right now, much more than 23% of products and income gets sent to the government anyway.
Doesn't that include payroll taxes that the employee would take home anyway?...I thought so.

Taxing increases value?

The value of something is what someone will pay you for it. I'd pay more for a car that somebody else has already paid the tax on, than an identical one that I have to pay the tax myself in addition to what I'm buying the car for. So yeah, the person that already paid the tax has increased its value to me.
