Paul Moyer started on the local L.A. NBC news after Tom left for the big time in NYC.
Everyone thought he and Tom had the same looks and mannerisms. When both were asked about the similarities between them, they both were amused but they saw absolutely no similarities whatsoever. I for one still think of Tom when I watch Moyer doing the news.
BTW - Ackroyd RULES doing his Snyder impersonation.
AHA, AHA, AHA......

I remember some guy he interviewed named Brother Theodore

I saw Brother Theodore's act Off-off-Broadway in New York. He was a hoot because he was so dismal about everything. His signature line: "God is dead, and I'm not feeling so well myself". I think he had a hard time letting go of the act, though.

When I lived In LA, I really enjoyed Tom. He had a great sense of humopr and never appeared to think he walked on water like so many of the “anchors” there appear.

He told Larry Kane at KYW in Philly that he always remembered that his voice carried ... ...

... to the end of the bar!

Thanks for the video link, I enjoyed it, hearing him, and seeing him in motion, it reminded me of how much I enjoyed his shows whenever I happened to catch them.

It's not often I can say I'll miss someone from the MSM.

Tom Snyder is on a Johnny Carson level on my scale. He wasn't a cookie cutter MaxHeadRoom kinda guy, at least not later on in his career, when I saw him.

I was too young to watch him on “Tomorrow”, myself. I only caught him a few times on CNBC, but watched him faithfully on his CBS follow-up to Letterman. I was sorry to see with his departure that that style of interview died (I was a fan of Bob Costas’s “Later” after Letterman’s old NBC show), especially when he retired and Craig Kilborn took over.

I don’t watch any of the late night interview shows anymore. Leno is no Johnny Carson. Letterman isn’t Letterman anymore, he’s a past-his-prime caricature of when his show used to be entertaining (and after he moved to CBS, it pretty much went downhill). Conan is a smidge better, but he always seemed a bit too silly and ditto Craig Ferguson.

Maybe half the problem are the guests. Far too many of the people that were worth listening to are... for lack of a better word... dead. The people that pop on are these low-digit IQ’d buffoons that make all the rounds and seem to be on every other week. And the musical guests are even worse. We sure went downhill culturally really fast after the ‘80s, didn’t we ?

You got that right! It was his laugh that also added to the appeal of Dan Akroyd's imitation of Tom Snyder on SNL in the mid 70s. It amazes me now when I see clips of Tom Snyder's show that he was never without a cigarette! He and his guests blew so much smoke around that the set was like a smoke filled bar room. I can remember listening to the people he had on his show and the kinds of questions he would ask. He always got the central issues raised. Most of the time the show ended without resolving the argument, but at least there was usually a lively discussion. His brand of journalism is going to die out soon. We won’t ever have another program on TV that spends a full 30 (let alone 60) minutes on one topic. Our collective attention span is dwindling and the ratings war makes it impossible.

I always thought Moyer was a Snyder wannabe, too...only he's waaaay too dumb.

I'll never forget his idiocy during the OJ Bronco chase; somebody got a head-on closeup of the car, and he breathlessly advised us, "KNBC can now confirm there is at least one person in that Bronco!!"
