I know that the farm bill is not perfect and needs a good overhaul to eliminate the pork, but these amendments would do good things for our animals and needs to be passed, IMHO.

Emotionality about pets as apposed to livestock should not be encoded into law.

This also supports our efforts to underscore that humane treatment of animals is an important aspect of our culture and also that animal cruelty must be monitored and dealt with as it correlates so highly to abuse of humans.

There’s a difference between “animal rights” and “animal welfare”. These provisions sound like they are promoting “animal welfare”. They sound good to me.

And every single thing is now a federal matter. Screw the constitution, it's for the children kittens.

With what we legalized as a woman’s right to choose, I have serious doubts to the argument that a culture’s treatment of animals correlates to abuse of humans. should be the other way around.

Agreed! This is one federal law I can actually applaud.

In my experience, those who beat their dogs, cats and/or horses tend to treat their families the same way.

Yeah, any other promotion via lawmakers be damned to to the back burner for lack of concern.

The Fabianist will outlaw hunting with dogs and other uses of animals in the future. Thats the way of a large Fed.

I just check my handy dandy pocket sized copy of the US Constitution and I'm unable to find the words 'agriculture', 'pets', or 'medical research' anywhere in Article 3, Section 8.

Strangely my copy also lacks the words 'farm subsidies' entirely.

I wonder if Congress is working from a different document because whatever it is they're using it sure as Hell isn't the US Constitution.

How is humane treatment of animals “socialism” pray tell? What else would you exclude from humane treatment? Wives? Kids? The unborn?

Absolutely it should. How would you feel if you had to give your dog or cat away because of changed circumstances only to have it end up in a lab? That's how these 'Class B' dealers work - they troll newspapers looking for 'free to a good home' ads.

Laws should and do reflect society's values & our feelings toward companion animals are part of this.

Rest at ease replying to me for my Husky is spoiled rotten and loves life at my expense.

He allows me the chore to take care of human concerns and appreciates my care taking of him.

I protect him from the silly day to day political fervor insistent in promoting an agenda.
