I don’t think we do people any favors by treating their mental problems as normal.
That is rarely mentioned, but the most logical response I think. The literature on post-operative trans-sexuals admits (though sato voce) that many signs of mental illness, including psychosis, remain long after the "re-adjustment." So if the surgery/mutilation was to help the patient become themselves (and achieve mental peace/integration) then why hasn't it worked? With the debate about homosexual reparative therapy ongoing in the American Psychological Association you would think, based on the evidence, that there would be a similar debate going on in surgical circles about "gender re-assignment." Guess not. Heck, what do I know?

Because they don’t really want to be women. They want to be what their stereotyped vision of a woman as defined by our culture is - and very often it has nothing to do with the real thing.
For a definition of a REAL woman, read Proverbs chapter 31. I always laugh when people say the Bible represses women.

Which can be said for many (not all) gay men. The stereotypical feminine behavior. And while we are at it....riddle me this. Why is it when you gay women couples, in so many of them one always seems to be playing the manly role in terms of dress and behavior? Makes me think that deep down they don’t really believe it themselves.
