What were we talking about? Who are you anyway?
;-)
See post#125 on my thoghts about the situation.
Exactly the point I have been trying to make on this thread. The police are as much constrained by the laws of the state as ordinary citizens are.
It is appalling that so many people even here on FR are willing to surrender their rights and "go along to get along" with high-handed police arrogance and disrespect for the rights of law abiding citizens. The colonists who rode the king's tax collectors out of town on a rail would be ashamed to admit that they are the progenitors of many present day Americans.
>I think though that this was a conflict for which he was unprepared.<
Always obey the man with the badge and then have your attorney discuss it with the bossman. It’s kept me from being arrested or harrassed by young, energetic LEO’s.
I’ll bet that your wife is a great mommy. Does she cuddle you while you’re wimpering or just share her Teddy bear?
Yeah, but you only need one hand for the donut--even has a hole in some models to improve donut retention...
(8^D) (I couldn't resist!)
We don't smoke,
Nor drink,
Nor cuss.
Norfolk!
(What a boring place it must be! If it weren't for busting citizens, there wouldn't be anything going on.)
No wonder the cops were so grumpy!
And he will continue to break the laws he is suppose to enforce. If you don't force him to arrest you this sort of stuff will never stop. He did not resist arrest so in a since he did obey the law, he just did not obey what was not the law.
There are many instances. For one, I cannot carry my weapon with me daily because I work on a military base, 2 - many people can instinctively know that where they are going may or may not pose a threat.
>As required, I immediately told him I had a CPL and was carrying a firearm and attempted to give it to him but he said he didn’t want to see the license or the firearm.........<
It came up when he ran your plate from the car.
Talk about a target-rich environment! I immediately got about 5 jokes centered on sharing teddies, but none of them are respectable!
I agree, but don’t you think you are capable of pretty accurately knowing when and where you have a greater need to carry?
Of course you can’t carry if it’s illegal an, irrelevant point to make. People have been killed while attending church!
It's really quite good. Mr. VanCleave is a bulldog on the 2nd Amendment. The guy ought to get a medal.
Not so sure about that. Both hands in plain sight and occupied with eating, not exactly a confrontational or combattive stance.
Reaching for the firearm might have been more easily misunderstood, even if it was to surrender it.
Imho, he did the right thing to keep his hands occupied and away from the firearm, especially if the police are that hair-trigger.
Why wouldn’t he simply conceal in the first place?
Legal or not it calls attention to himself and his weapon.
Common sense should dictate that.
I prefer to be quit about my ability to defend myself and loved ones. But that’s just me.
BTW, I’m jealous of Va. CCW’s carrying in a festival, parade, etc.
Here in NC it’s a no-no.
Carrying is not just about when you think you need it, but when you need it period. When you need it most may be when you don’t think you need it or when you can’t have it. Like others have said, the people at VT didn’t think they needed them and couldn’t have them but it turns out they did.
See post 125 on my thoughts about his being asked to leave.
I have had officers step on my toes in the past. After my attorney had a discussion with the watch commander and the police chief, the sargents took corrective action to see that it didn’t happen again to anyone.
I have nothing pushing me to get involved in a long drawn out costly lawsuit when education of the offending employees will suffice. The Chief and I are not personal friends but we do respect each other. If I ask for something, he’ll at least listen to me.
Kinda like a fire extinguisher.
