It is my understanding that at least in Texas it is illegal to give out the information that she gave you.

It is my understanding (IANAL) that it's not per se illegal, but that it could open you up to a potential lawsuit. That's why some employers, when asked for a reference, say nothing more than to verify dates of employment, job title and salary.

A lot of companies, including 7-11 according to the article, therefore have a blanket policy of making no public statements on personnel matters. If they made an exception in this case, my guess is that they felt the bad PR outweighed the lawsuit risk.

"Freedom of speech takes a back seat to profits

Every single time. 7-11 is not in business to provide employees with a soapbox.

Dear Editor:

In reply to the Aspen Times editorial of June 29 (”Feeling racial tension close to home”), I would like to clarify a few things.

First there was no argument between myself and those two L.A. gangbangers in the Basalt 7-Eleven. They threatened me three times in five minutes and the only thing I said in reply was, “If you like my hat, you’ll love my T-shirt.” It has a Poncho Villa-like character on it and the phrase, “Jesus (say: ‘Hey Zeus’) is my gardener.”

I was chuckling when they walked out and thinking, NOT saying, chief, “Bring it on.” That’s what I told officer Brook, and if Chiefy had bothered to listen to the audio on the 7-Eleven tape he took, he wouldn’t be making dumbass statements to the press about what I said to these two scumbags.

Secondly, the editorial referred to a conflict between citizens and immigrants. The conflict is between citizens and illegal aliens; there’s a BIG difference! The bleeding-heart, open-borders bozos always omit that word “illegal.”

For those who look upon illegal entry as trivial, take a look at those bullet holes in the Basalt 7-Eleven window. Among the 25 million illegal aliens in the USA are a million violent felons. That’s the result of not controlling our borders.

Thirdly, calling this craven act of violence “foolish” is outrageous! Puppy love is foolish, this was murderous. If some punk has a problem with my hat, take it up with me. Don’t hide in the dark, shoot at women and children, and then run away like scared little girls. There is a God, and I wish those two pieces of dung a toasty afterlife.

Lastly, I’d like to give Basalt Pool Chief Ikeda a clue: check out M-13 on the Internet. It’s an El Salvadoran gang whose fashion trademark is white tank tops, baggy pants and lots of tattoos on the upper body. Did you notice a “13” on that mute coward you questioned and released? The guy isn’t up here for the fishing or festivals, chief, he’s most likely running a load of meth or coke.

Is sweeping this under the rug someone’s idea of easing racial tensions in the valley? Ignore it, and maybe it’ll go away? Or just afraid to let the public know L.A. gangs have moved into the valley?

To protect and serve, it says on the shiny new squad cars. How come I don’t feel all that safe?

Bruno Kirchenwitz

Thanks for the post.

That’s what I told officer Brook, and if Chiefy had bothered to listen to the audio on the 7-Eleven tape he took, he wouldn’t be making dumbass statements to the press about what I said to these two scumbags.

Bruno seems to have the audio tapes on his side, and in America one would think that would mean something. But with Nifongs and evidently this Keystone Cop of police chief, American justice has little moral foundation. As Nifong proved, we will indict you for a crime that was never committed if it fits the prevailing political fashion. And we will punish the victim, if the victim happens to be a poor white guy as Bruno describes himself and the criminals are illegal immigrants and these illegal immigrants the current favorites of scumbag politicians who are currying their favor with unearned entitlements and as in this case with the criminal license to do harm to those legal citizens seeking to make a living by working hard and playing by the rules. The real banditos here are not the shooters but the scumbag politicians who call themselves lawmakers, and at the same time REFUSING to enforce the laws already passed. These banditos are robbing this nation of its sovereignty and that maybe the highest crime that can be perpetrated on any nation.

"Freedom of speech takes a back seat to profits,"

Bull.

Nobody has "freedom of speech" at work, especially when dealing with the public.

"I just spoke with the head of media relations at 7-11 corporate office (Margaret) and she explained to me that the shooting & border patrol hat were not the reasons for his dismissal, at all. Bruno would pester and harangue customers and had other violations of corporate policy unrelated to this incident."

Now THIS I believe.

The irony of it is that (according to the article) he wasn’t “representin” while on the clock. He claims to only wear the cap to and from work.

But I suspect he wouldn’t exercise discretion for the sake of “the customer is always right,” when questioned, LOL. Perhaps foolhardy, but I admire his pluck.

What if he were a black employee in the 1950s?

Some businesses were vandalized strictly at night for being “n***** lovers”.

Perhaps a gas station would refuse employment to a Jewish man, who may not discuss his politics at work but be a member of “and international Zionist conspiracy”?

Some of the 75% Hispanic customer base inquired as to a hat rumor had it he owned. They weren’t asking to find out where they could buy one like it. They were targeting him for discrimination.

No where in this is it referred to as a hate crime to shoot up the store.

I recently attended a business training seminar for realtors. One of the attendees was a Palestinian guy with whom I ended up talking and getting pretty friendly or at least chatty. (I’m Jewish, but I didn’t get into political discussions with him) One day, we went out to lunch and ordered burgers at a restaurant. The cashier was a Hispanic guy. When he handed us our receipts I noticed at the bottom the text “your server is Jesus”. I noticed this and pointed out “hey, Jesus is selling us cheeseburgers”. We both cracked up.

Moral: None.
