An estimated two billion people worldwide have watched the Live Earth concerts on the television

Correction, 1 billion, 999 million, 999 thousand, 999.......I had to nap in the air conditioning due to the extreme heat here in Michigan and forgot all about the concert........

Did I miss anything?

Thanks, Freepers, for your replies! I now have numerous theories to reflect upon as to how they know 2 billion people watched, and they are highly entertaining. As for e, I’m watching approximately 40 racecars going nearly 200 mph for 400 miles in the Florida heat. Or is that 4 million racecars going at the speed of light circumnavigating the earth?

For starters, I doubt that any of the 900 million+ Chinese peasants in the hinterland watched it.

I found this article most interesting. Why? Because Garth Brooks is one of the top concert draws in the world.

But the National Museum of the American Indian finally offered its venue on the Mall for the show, which featured the Native American band Blues Nation and an acoustic performance from country music stars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood.

-snip-

A few hundred spectators turned out for the concert, which began at 10:30 am (1430 GMT).

I own a company with 465 factories, worldwide, that produce nothing but pollution. Smokestacks churn out noxious sulphurous fumes, big pipes pour carcinogins into pristine lakes, and rickety trucks loaded with leaky barrels haul nuclear waste to local playgrounds.

Can I send you a resume?

Gee, this just happens to be the same number Algore said would watch. This couldn’t be a bunch of made-up bullshit, could it?

Well, I guess I was counted as one of the 2 billion because my TV was still on the Sundance channel after I watched the program about Karl Lagerfeld at around 1:00 this morning. I watched the lurid Live Earth video for about 30 seconds before lunging for the remote. I then switched to the Catholic Network as an antidote. The images on the Live Earth video were of starving children in Africa, industrial waste pouring into rivers, thousands of chickens being slaughtered, crops withering, etc. Very well done, but you’d have to be a total masochist to watch that kind of propaganda BS.

Gotta say, I heard the term "Live Earth' (In passing on FR), but had no clue it was some actual event until this thread..

2Bln? C'mon..That has to be stretching it. I really don't know the numbers, but some how I doubt 2,000,000,000 TV's were tuned in. Hell, are there actually 2Bln (2,000,000,000) viewers in the world???

I think I'll turn my thermostat down a notch or two...

after algore's concert, I know that there will be a billion or so people who go right out and have their suv's crushed, and all the rockers will do the same for their jets. I know that all of them will start riding bicycles to the grocery store.....

so there will be plenty of extra energy for me to be a little cooler....yeah!

what they count is anyone who heard one note of music during the 24 hours. that is what tuned in means.

but they are vastly overestimating this event. I didnt know one other person who planned to watch any of this...and I asked a lot of people!

This is like the million man march a few years ago. If they charged $10.00 a person, they should know exactly how many showed up, by the money they collected.

I went out to McDonalds today, they had it on the station I breezed by a few times. I’ll bet what they did was add up all the listening areas of all the stations it was on.

Jeez, I worked 12 hours today to support my family. I dont wanna hear shit anymore about starving people around the world if 2 billion other people sat around all day watching TV.
