I don’t think so other than the mentality of not being confrontational and letting the Iranians get away with it.
I cannot be critical since we have places in the USA doing similar craziness. What is going on in the UK and European countries is being used to show Americans what can happen here if we don’t take action now to prevent it.
Ever since I heard Jerusalem...in Chariots of Fire..I have loved it!
I hear Paul Potts has it on his new CD coming out this month.
Looked like a very patriotic crowd to me!
God bless you all!
Can you explain 'Night of the Proms'....
My understanding of 'prom' is highschool dance/senior year...
...I suspect this is something different.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Paul Potts is fantastic, I’m surprised you’ve heard of him over there.
Night of the proms, is basically a BBC thing, every summer
there are the bbc proms, and the ‘last night of the proms’ is traditionally the sort of ‘patriotic’ night, although that isn’t especially the theme of the whole thing.
But they set up events across the country, and people come
out with their flags and just have a great time in general.
There are threads on Paul Potts at Free Republic.
He has a great voice and is charming.
I'm hoping to buy his first CD!
I do actually recall seeing it at the end of special report with brit hume the other week. lol.
Never knew it took off over in the states. Brilliant.
I have listened over and over....many have.
Someone at FR linked Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma....as technically more pure...
Well....give this young man Potts time and training, and he will be as rich in voice, I truly believe.
But right now, Potts reaches millions of folks because they simply love him, are rooting for him and his music envelops them like Pavarotti never has.
The man has soul!
Yeah, he’s a really nice and humble guy.
Welcome to Free Republic! :)
Please don't hesitate to post again...I found your comment most informative!
Just to address one of your points, mate. The (excellent) Australian sailors who evaded capture by Iran faced very different circumstances to the Brits who were captured. A single Iranian gunboat approached the Aussies with clear hostile intent and the Australians were able to re-board a larger ship to mount a defence. 4 more Iranian ships only arrived after 45 minutes. The British sailors were reboarding their inflatable craft when an Iranian boat approached with friendly gestures and smiles. When the Brits were vulnerable in their inflatable boarding craft a second Iranian ship approached and both Iranian vessels pointed their heavy weapons, rifles and RPGs at the Brits and began to ram them. The British attempted to motor away (and even Faye Turney, the female sailor, told them to ‘f*** off’), but the Iranians had them blocked in. As this was occuring, 6 more Iranian gunboats joined the attack. Trying to shoot your way out when a single burst of Iranian gunfire would kill or wound all of the Brit sailors wasn’t really an option. The Iranians came better prepared to seize the British because of the lessons of the Aussie incident. I don’t deny, of course, that the hostage crisis was embarrasing for the UK. But there have been embarrassments for the US too (such as the mutiny of some US troops over convoy duty a couple of years back). What is important is that neither of these incidents can detract from the courage of both the US and UK armed forces.
