"I'm very wary of Fred Thompson myself" At least we agree on one thing. Time will tell. You are right in that Rudi should have known about his buddy, but it wouldn't be the first time that he has been let down or betrayed by a confidant... that goes for most of us as well.

But that's not what happened.

Rudy was briefed about Kerik's mob ties, but appointed him as Police Commissioner just months later. He later recommended Kerik for the post of Secretary of Homeland Security.

This isn't about being "let down" by Kerik. Not when Rudy knew ahead of time.

"But that's not what happened." Please give me a valid reference and I'll yield.

Source for what? That Rudy knew about Kerik's connection to a mobbed-up company before he appointed him as police commissioner?

Giuliani Testified He Was Briefed on Kerik in ’00 (NY Times)

He claimed not to have been aware of the connection, until he was told that the man who briefed him on it had already testified to the contrary.

In his testimony, given in April 2006, Mr. Giuliani indicated that he must have simply forgotten that he had been briefed on one or more occasions as part of the background investigation of Mr. Kerik before his appointment to the police post.

You'd think a man who made his career going after mob figures would want members of his administration, particularly law-enforcement officials, to be above reproach. Or should he have ignored this connection just because Bernie was his pal?
