I wonder if any of these phones were from the hundreds of prepaid cell phones purchased by some Muslims from Detroit who were driving around the Midwest buying some at every Wal Mart they came to? Of course these innocent Muslims were released...no evidence of any terrorist activity.

I was surprised that it was announced on the radio how the FBI goes about tracing links between terrorists. Basically they said that the FBI checks all the phone numbers that a terrorist was in contact with, then checks the contacts of all those numbers, and repeats this up to a certain number (which was given) of levels of separation.

Now one might expect NPR to reveal such information, but why is the FBI telling the news media about it? Not that it is such a terribly large secret, but given that it is still effective, why hasten the enlightenment of Al Qaeda?
