Very sad. When you think of what these proud, tough people have been reduced to under communism, it's heartbreaking. How ironic that the name of their official state philosophy, "Juche", translates to "spirit of self reliance" when the reality is anything but. Here's the wikipedia article on it--I learned a lot:
