The entire arab media is not a free press, but state run. All these countries are dictatorships and monarchies. These governments decide what can or cannot be said in the press. The press plays a role in keeping these dictatorships and monarchies going. The state-run arab media is used to create external threats to keep the civilians attention fixed in that direction. The constant demonizing and constant blaming of the US and Israel for all the problems in the world has been going on for decades.
It’s to keep attention away from all the shortcomings and corruption within its own governments. Egpyt wrote the book on this. Even the smallest of internal problems with that country, and they claim it can’t be addressed until the israeli-palestinian problem is solved, knowing full well it hasn’t nothing to do with it.

This article is a prefect example of the crap thats spewed in the middle-east every day.

. . . in the letters pages of the local papers readers expressed sympathy and compassion for the families of the [victims of the Korean student behind the carnage].

Why not the same outpouring from Americans for the civilian victims of U.S. bombs in Afghanistan?

Ans (IMO): The entire number of dead and wounded in Virginia were innocent victims, in Afghanistan the bad guys were hiding behind the innocent victims -- it is the bad guys' supporter who need to protest the bad guy's tactics.

Americans did express deep sympathy for those victims and future victims; to wit, many of us hope that our forces kill increasing numbers of the bad guys -- yes, just like they did in Europe in W.W.II -- without regard to civilian casualties if necessary.
