Pres Bush is only echoing the words of the real Muslim reform movement that sees Israel as a positive example. Why should he appease the killers and haters who have been corrupted by manipulative regimes looking to escape criticism and political reform.

…………………………………..

Manji is impressed by the State of Israel: the “freedom of expression epitomized by a ferociously free press”, open debate and self-criticism and the government’s responsiveness to it, its multicultural nature, and tolerance of different religious groups and sexual orientations. She believes that the Muslim world should follow Israel’s example of democratic freedom. She is often praised for this by pro-Israel groups.

As a Syrian and a Muslim, I have always had this affinity for the State of Israel. As a businessman and an advocate of the free economic system of governance, Israel to me represents an astounding economic success in the midst of so many Arab failures. I measure achievement not in terms of trade or dollars going in or out (Saudi Arabia is best at that) but in terms of scientific prowess that ultimately churns the economic engine of success.

I am also convinced that our peace with Israel has protected our region from anarchy. It is not an exaggeration to say that the development boom in the Gulf would not have occurred without peace between Egypt and Israel. I believe that the criticism against the peace with Israel is [merely] a cover for corruption and for those who oppose any change and development in Egypt, because normal relations with Israel entail the establishment of normal relations among the Egyptians.”

‘Abd Al-Latif: “Do you believe in the good intentions of the Israelis?”

‘Ali Salem: “You are not dealing with a gang. You are dealing with governments. In politics, it’s not about intentions, it’s about agreements.”

Thank You, Israel!

“Perhaps her most provocative words on Al Jazeera were those comparing how the Jews and Muslims have reacted to adversity. Speaking of the Holocaust, she said, ‘The Jews have come from the tragedy and forced the world to respect them, with their knowledge, not with their terror; with their work, not with their crying and yelling.’

“She went on, ‘We have not seen a single Jew blow himself up in a German restaurant. We have not seen a single Jew destroy a church. We have not seen a single Jew protest by killing people.’

“She concluded, ‘Only the Muslims defend their beliefs by burning down churches, killing people and destroying embassies. This path will not yield any results. The Muslims must ask themselves what they can do for humankind, before they demand that humankind respect them.’

“There can be no living culture in the world if you cannot criticize its foundations - the religion.
“We lack the courage to ask any question about any religious issue.

“For example, as a Muslim, I cannot say a single word about the Prophet Moses.

“The Prophet Moses did not say anything to me as a Muslim, whereas the Israeli Jew can criticize Moses and all the prophets in the Torah, and he can even question the divinity of the Torah.”

Excellent. Next steps.

Recognize their government, already done.

Pull the troops out now, tomorrow, if not sooner.

Enforce an immediate arms embargo on the government of Iraq. Iran, Syria, they get to buy what they want.

Sometimes I wonder what the administration is thinking when they say these things.

Bush is going to fill Iraq with conservative right-wing militant Jews? Now that sounds like a plan!
