I’m curious. How does this thread fit into what you call a “homosexual agenda”?

I do care. Apathy has cost America a lot. It’s why I read FR, an activism site.

The potential long-term affects of this are very scary especially when you consider that they want to administer the drug to girls at the very same time her reproductive system is developing.

Absolutely. There is a big difference between giving it to adults and peddaling it to parents after scaring them. With hype. They didn't succeed in making it a mandatory innoculation so they'll go directly to parents who have no info.

As of Feb this year, it had never even been tested on the targeted age group, 9 to 12 yr olds.

And there is no possible way to know what effect this drug could have on girls in ten to fifteen years when they want to have children.

It doesn't, I cut and pasted wrong.

I don’t know and don’t care about your question, because I have no independent verification of your number, and don’t care how common or uncommon you think it is. Polio and Hepatitus are also very rare diseases, yet some people weigh the the odds and their risks and get vaccinated for them.

I understand the mandated vaccination at schools and such is very controversial, but a company setting up an information booth at a Walmart is not forcing it on anyone. You chose to go shout at someone about a product you have no interest in, that’s obnoxious. Just my opinion, of course.

Thanks. I don’t believe any of us really knows the depth of the lobbying the sales reps do to doctors, clinics and office staff.

And that's what many parents don't understand. It makes perfect sense to innoculate children against diseases like chicken pox, mumps and measles because these are diseases that will quickly pass from child-to-child through ORDINARY EVERYDAY INTERACTION (I remember when I was a kid in a small town, chicken pox broke out and within two weeks, every kid in town who had never had chicken pox got it), HPV can ONLY be transmitted sexually.

From Merck's Gardasil page:

WHY SHOULD I GET MY DAUGHTER VACCINATED WITH GARDASIL NOW? CAN’T IT WAIT?

Like other vaccines your daughter has received, GARDASIL works to help prevent illness. GARDASIL works when given before there is any contact with HPV Types 6, 11, 16, and 18. That’s why it’s important that you talk to your daughter’s doctor or healthcare professional about getting GARDASIL now—not later. You’ll be helping to protect her future from cervical cancer and genital warts before she’s even old enough to worry about them.

Wow. They recommend parents talk to their daughters' healthcare professional. What hype.

Hepatitis vaccines are fairly new and not pushed the way this one is.

As far as the polio vaccine and polio being rare, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. I would suggest you talk to your parents or grandparents about the fear of polio that swept through America every summer prior to the vaccine.

If you'd actually read the thread, you'd know.

You chose to go shout

Hubby doesn't shout. Ever. He challenged her "facts".

Just my opinion, of course.

You are absolutely entitled to an opinion.

Polio is now rare because widespread vaccination was implemented. Sometimes, diseases crop up that warrant that. Is this HPV one? I don’t know. That’s still to be decided.

I agree. There was another article on FR not long ago on the same subject but I couldn’t find it.

So don't assume I don't know what I'm talking about. I chose my examples carefully.

Absolutely. And we shove enough drugs at our kids. They don’t need an unproven one that benefits so few.

Considering that doctors get kickbacks and gifts from drug companies, it's a safe bet the doc will "do the right thing".

Stanford says doctors can't receive drug firm gifts

Polio HAS NOT been eradicated worldwide, only smallpox has. An outbreak of polio would be devestating and could spread very quickly.

The difference between polio and HPV is that polio spreads through NORMAL contact and HPV is sexually transmitted. A responsible person is 100% immune from HPV WITHOUT a shot.

My mother-in-law had polio at 3. She had one arm and leg atrophied. Her right arm was always small and useless. She had repeated surgeries on her left leg. Her parents were told that she’d never walk again. She did as no one told her that. Polio was a horrible scourge. My cousin Tim is in a wheelchair, since the age of eight, from polio. This HPV thing does NOT compare.

Normal people have sex, it’s at least as common as swimming in swimming pools.

I understand the controversy. I don’t have a real dog in the fight, I don’t have a daughter, and I’m married and not likely to need it for myself. I still think it may make sense for the vaccine to exist, it has a market.
Are they saying that ONLY children should have this vaccine? Or would they recommend it for any adult woman who may be at risk? I ask, because the debate seems to revolve entirely around kids and they don’t seem to me to be the whole market.

It’s as if you want to ban the vaccine for everyone because you WANT the threat of disease to help scare your kids into not having sex. Or... you think that once vaccinated, all other caution and restraint will be thrown to the wind? I have only a casual interest in this, so help me out here.

Maybe this was true awhile ago, but I would say that your guess would be not as sure a thing today. As a high-school student who attends parties and hears gossip, etc. (although I have kept myself chaste), I can vouch that in many, many cases, it is girls who encourage the guys to have sex. Just my $.02
