The Pew poll also found that, among Republican voters, those who are more likely to say that abortion is a key topic in determining their vote are less likely to support pro-abortion ex-New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. It's time for Rudy to get out of the race.

Strange...I saw a poll just yesterday that id’d the top voter concern as illegal immigration, 2nd was the WOT and I believe abortion was 3rd or 4th. Anymore I wonder about any poll I see, is it to divert our attention elsewhere? Life used to be so simple.

Abortion Seen as Top White House Issue by 40 Percent of Americans Eight percent of voters in the Wirthlin poll indicated abortion was the "most important" issue affecting their votes
Either there has been a sea change of opinion on this over the past two and a half years or else one of these polls is lying.

Giuliani is pro-abortion (even government funding), and has a real problem with the sentiment indicated in this poll.

This story is very misleading (intentionally, I'd guess).
First, the headline says abortion is "Top Issue", implying it's the number one issue for 40 percent of voters.
Then, in the first paragraph, the authors downgrade that to "a top issue", thus demonstrating it's not really the number one issue to these voters.
Finally, in the fourth paragraph, the writers admit, "Other political issues such as terrorism and immigration scored higher on the Pew survey in terms of whether a voter considered it an important issue."
Nowhere, though, do the authors provide the actual data showing where abortion falls on the polled voters' list of important issues. What are they hiding? Is it actually not very high? A perfect example of spin that can fool the unwary. Better to find the data yourself (which, unfortunately, I couldn't locate on the Pew website).

This is one reason I think the “W is evil” crowd are off the mark. There are quite a few children alive today (and more in the future) on account of his actions in this area.

I agree and I’m not a Bushbot. More could be done certainly but given the condition of this society today I have to give our president an ‘A’ here.

Ask the most dedicated, pro lifer about exactly what they want, as a practical policy matter, and more often than not they are stumped.
Lock up pregnant woman seeking abortions?
Lock up doctors performing abortions?
Is it murder, as they often say? If so, should it be a captial crime? Is the doctor the murderer, and the woman a conspirator?
Just what do they mean by making abortion illegal, as a practical matter?

Just what do they mean by making abortion illegal, as a practical matter? It means stopping the culture of death from murdering 3500 infants a day.

That’s a goal - what are the practical policy steps towards that end?

Very misleading report. Very misleading poll. Very misleading headline.
I dunno, maybe i’m seeing pink gorillas, but this seems like a contrived attempt to bring RoeVWade back into play after Thompson’s statements last week. Guiliana is a putz, but Thompson didn’t dance around. And usually Abortion doesn’t come into play until we’re down to two months before voting.
So who is it that’s running that just can’t wait, had to start campaigning 6 months before anyone else, oh and thinks she owns the abortion issue? .....
