And that victory will look like . . . ?
Speaking of "we," what's that in your pocket?
May be the defeatists in America should try to amend the Constitution to say the following:
A war must be immediately stopped if:
a. We lose one thousand troops.
b. We spend more than 50 billion dollars.
c. The war lasts more than 3 months.
d. Which ever come first from either a, b, or c then the United States of America must end the war immediately regardless of the outcome.
“Go find some sand to place your head in. “
And become like others who can’t learn from history?
And ?
How do you want to fight the foe without collateral damages ?
Iran doesn’t care of the collateral damages. It is killing GI’s as well as Iraqis.
Victory is to destroy AL Qaeda and the other terrorist groups and make them so weak that they cannot pose a real threat on the national security of the USA or the world.
You sound like a paleo who thinks that if we just "leave them alone" (as if we weren't doing that already), they'd just "leave us alone."
Sure, and Santa Claus will fly in the tooth fairy to put a quarter under your bed, too.
We will either fight to give these people a better chance now or we will be back in the near future for a much bigger war. And we may just get a much bigger war with Iran in any case, so it's better to prevent any spoiling attack by crushing AQI and Sadr's militia now.
Sometimes you just have to do the best you can even in difficult circumstances where you would have never chosen to do something for it's own sake and instead have to do it simply because it's the best option left. That's real life, not a fantasy.
What history? Do you have any clue what will happen if we leave Iraq before we crush the terrorists there? Do not compare this war to any war in the past, this time if we do not destroy the terrorists in Iraq the consequences on the USA and the World will be worst than any nightmare we can imagine.
“How do you want to fight the foe without collateral damages ?”
Suppose the collateral damage includes such a disruption of oil supplies that most Americans wind up starving and freezing in the dark. Is that an acceptable outcome to you?
Speaking of Keyboard Commandoes...How’s Ft. Livingroom treatin’ ya’....?
Why not just post a notice that "we" does not include you? Don't think he or I would much mind your excusal. From what you've posted in this thread so far, I've certainly written you off.
And that victory will look like . . . ?
Which one? By my count we've had one: the removal of Sadamn. If you and the others don't have your way, we'll have another when factions in Iraq are free to govern themselves and we have our permanent bases vouchsafed in the larger, generational war on terror.
lost is NOT carnage
I'd like to see you standing outside the gates of, let's say, Ft. Stewart when an Infantry Battalion of the 3rd ID is coming home after 15 months in combat.
Attempting to justify the casualties of one war with the casualties of another war is so keyboard warriorish.
It's just old fashioned anti-war propaganda.
Good.
What a cheap stunt by CNN. Now they measure the casualties by hours, instead of days. What’s next? Deaths per second?
The Soviet Union was forced to withdraw from Afghanistan, and before them we have the example of France in Indochina, not to mention the US later.
Rome and Jews attempted to “crush” Christianity, and as a result, it thrived. The only thing that will end Islamism is a change in their thinking, not bombs or bullets.
That's the nine month good Patriot plan?
Great.
We're agreed. "We" does not include the likes of you.
You can stop being sophomoricly silly about it. Others may cite this exchange in answer the next time you ask.
