HG doesn’t need me to defend him and probably wouldn’t appreciate it , if I tried. :’). When people drop in with who is DH, most know and I see it as funny because they really saying where is he at now. Usually we laugh. Tonight was a dud, I guess. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose.

Today, when I was watching Duncan Hunter on Wolf Blitzer’s show, I decided that I going to vote for Duncan Hunter. I have always liked him but now I think that he really has a chance to win! Go Hunter ‘08.

I’m not asking you to stick up for him. I’m glad you aren’t participating in the name-calling. That is so childish...I thought this was a forum of adults, but some sure don’t act like they are out of elementary school yet.

Gunner is anything but a “lonely guy trying to get someone to pay attention to him”. He’s a SOLID Conservative who is very active in the Conservative movement.

Then why is he acting like an A$$hole in this thread?

He was a personal friend to TexasCowboy, Flyer and Dix before they passed. I happen to think very highly of him, and find it rude and unacceptable for your group to call him a troll. Also, it’s against FR rules for you to do so.

Name dropping means nothing. And if some clod is going to act like a troll, they're going to get called on it.

Perhaps you should be admonishing your buddy humblegunner about 'name calling' since he was the first to start with the childish behavior, asking if Duncan Hunter was running for a local position as a 'sanitation engineer', among other sneers?

If you're gonna preach pal, preach to ALL the sinners.

Please enjoy our forum, but also please remember to use common courtesy when posting and refrain from posting personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, threats, racial or religious bigotry, or any other materials offensive or otherwise inappropriate for a conservative family audience. Free Republic is a noncommerical site. Please do not post advertising, solicitations, spam or any other commercial messages. Do not spam us with links to your own site. No one likes spam.

Ok...so I see a couple things on this thread that are against the rules as stated on the front page of FR.

1)Personal attack against Humblegunner
2)Openly soliciting for a political campaign.

You missed that FR Bug Zapper thread didn’t you?

First of all, your pal humblegunner started the disruptive behavior in this thread, and the response he received was proportional to his (ahem) ‘contributions’.

You have clearly confused FR with Lucianne.Com where the school marm mentality carries the day.

I’ll personally ask the mods to nuke my comments when humblegunner offers a sincere apology for his sneers and insults directed at a true conservative Republican that has done nothing to warrant such blatant disrespect from a virtual nobody.

There’s a big difference from what he said about a political figure and what you said about a fellow member of the site. What you have done is against the rules of the site.

I didn’t miss the “bugzapper” thread. I read every painful post, and saw a few very dear friends get banned. (these friends did not end up at wideawake).

You seem to have such a holier than thou attitude. I’m so glad I don’t have to resort to such tactics to be noticed.

The ‘big difference’ is that you’re all too eager to overlook the sneers and insults of the poster in question directed at a true conservative Republican, and your pal’s behavior is more than a little similar to the dearly departed who opus’d out of FR, and I submit that your ‘dear friends’ didn’t get banned, they banned themselves.

Who were those friends you are still grieving for, might I ask?

And don’t even try accusing ME of a ‘holier than thou’ attitude, you don’t know anything about me, and I don’t have to ‘resort’ to anything because I don’t care if I’m noticed or not, unlike your pal humblegunner, who (based on his posts in *this* thread) has much to be humble about.

We’re done here.

Last I knew, this was a free country. People are allowed to have personal opinions about the political figures.

This site, however, is owned by Jim Robinson. He has stated that personal attacks on other members are not welcome.

Duncan Hunter’s numbers are going up, while other candidates’ numbers are going down. In a recent poll, he came in a distant 3rd (still, 3rd is 3rd). Duncan Hunter is a man of integrity. Too bad we don’t see or hear enough of him. He needs more exposure on the cable news shows and on talk radio. That’s the only way his numbers are going to go higher. I’d like to see him running neck-and-neck with the other guys. He’s a true Conservative, unlike the other Republicans.

Oh, now you're going to hide behind the Flag. Nice.

Go back and read the Bug Zapper thread and note the tactics that many of the dearly departed employed when expressing their 'personal opinions' about Ronald Reagan, for example. Here's a clue: they were trashing the 40th President in order to boost their boy Rudy.

What your pal humblegunner has been doing in this thread is virtually the same tactic, except that he's not (yet) pushing his own candidate, he's just seeking to trash and belittle a true conservative, Duncan Hunter.

And you're defending him.

That speaks volumes.

It was the “trashing Ronald Reagan” that got several banned on that thread. I didn’t see gunner trashing the now deceased President Reagan. That would be tacky.

What exactly does it say about me? That I’m willing to stand up for my friends when I see them being treated in a manner that is inappropriate? Dang...I wouldn’t want that on my permanent file! It might ruin my reputation!

Let's review what you're defending here shall we?

I never heard of Duncan Hunter.
Is he some local guy of yours?
Running for city treasurer or sanitation manager or something?

I wish him luck and I'm sure he'll make a jam-up city treasurer or whatever.
County Clerk is pretty rough, though.. I hope he stays away from that. ;-)

Sorry, never heard of him.

Mr. Hunter so far is only a name I hear bandied about by some third-party kooks on FR.
How that equates to the "real world" I have no idea.
Enjoy your unelectable independent candidate.
We had one of those before.. Perot was his name.

It sure won't be an unelectable.
That's like throwing your vote into the trash, no matter how appealing the unelectable is.
I've always enjoyed Duncan Hines cake mixes though, and his donuts are passable.

I'm in Texas.
I never heard of him. He isn't on the radar.
I'm sure his neighbors and pals are rooting for him
and he may be a great guy and a jam-up prospect for President.
So is Eaker.. have you seen Eaker's ads? Do you know his stances on the issues?
Same deal.
He's a great guy but nobody knows about him. Focus on what is possible, not your dream candidate.

And as a PS - you might note that your buddy may not be trashing Ronald Reagan, but he is trashing a 26+ year veteran conservative Republican Congressman (a former U.S. Army Ranger no less!) that arrived in Washington in 1980 WITH Ronald Reagan, has described himself as Reagan's ideological soul mate (and his positions and performance bear that out), and Duncan Hunter has worked tirelessly to strengthen our national security, to build that border fence that should have been completed years ago, he is right on practically every issue that a true conservative should be concerned about, and if your pal in Houston is trashing THAT, he might as well be trashing Ronald Reagan, because if Reagan were alive today, he would have absolutely no problem in supporting and endorsing Duncan Hunter, you can take that to the bank.

dang, i think there is actually some THERE there....see what you think....

Anyways...i iike what I see..

DUNCAN HUNTER’S BIO FROM HIS WEB PAGE:

Since first being elected to Congress in 1980, Duncan Hunter has devoted himself to ensuring that our military is second to none, securing our nation’s borders, and protecting American workers from unfair competition. Hunter works on these issues because he believes that America’s greatest strength is our freedom and its protection requires our effort in all areas.
A Vietnam veteran, Duncan Hunter served in the 173rd Airborne and 75th Army Rangers and, after coming home, utilized the G.I. Bill to attend Western State University Law School in San Diego (now Thomas Jefferson School of Law). While completing his degree, Hunter supplemented his income by working in farming and construction, and opened a storefront legal office after graduation where he began serving many in the Hispanic community, often without compensation.

In 1980, Hunter was asked to mount a challenge for the Congressional seat held by 18-year incumbent Lionel Van Deerlin. Despite the district having a 2-to-1 Democrat registration, Hunter won the seat in an upset. Coming to Washington, Hunter successfully sought a seat on the House Armed Services Committee where he could work on America’s national security needs. Serving on this committee throughout his career, Hunter became Chairman of the full committee in 2002, overseeing a $532 billion defense budget. During his chairmanship from 2002-2006, and now as Ranking Member of the committee, Hunter focuses his efforts on providing President Bush with the necessary resources to win our nation’s military conflicts, protecting our men and women in uniform, and developing modernization initiatives that will move new and more effective technologies into the field of battle.

Living in a border community, Hunter also came to Congress to make securing the California-Mexico border a top priority. Hunter’s goal was to make the region safe for communities on both sides of the border by providing the necessary resources to our border enforcement agencies. September 11th, however, made border security a national security issue and Hunter responded by leading efforts in Congress to seal a porous border susceptible to illegal aliens, drug trafficking and terrorism. Hunter’s efforts have resulted in over 59 miles of fencing and border infrastructure to date in San Diego County. Hunter also wrote the Secure Fence Act, extending the San Diego fence 854 miles across California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. These fence provisions were signed into law by President Bush on October 26, 2006.

On the House Armed Services Committee, Hunter has protected U.S. defense jobs in aircraft, ship repair, machine tools, textile, steel and titanium to ensure that what he calls the “Arsenal of Democracy,” the U.S. industrial base, is maintained to provide security in time of war. Hunter’s other legislative priorities include retaining and increasing jobs across this nation, providing tax relief to hard-working families, keeping our promises to America’s veterans, protecting Social Security for present and future generations, and promoting strong family values.

Hunter resides in East San Diego County with his wife Lynne where they, like many of their neighbors, just completed re-building their Alpine home after it was lost in the October 2003 wildfires. In 2006, Duncan and Lynne celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary; they have two sons, Duncan Duane, who served two tours in Iraq in the U.S. Marine Corps, and Sam Hunter, a business student at San Diego State University. Duncan D. and his wife, Margaret, have three children, Duncan Lee, Elizabeth Grace and Sarah Louise, and reside in Lakeside, California. Sam was married on Valentine’s Day 2004 to the former Theresa Heger of Jamul and they had their first child, Marin, in October of 2006.

Waiting for MYYYYYYYYYYY thank you note! (arms folded tapping foot)

j/k

I spoke with the communications director last week and suggested just that. In addition, a series of interviews could be set up on blogtalkradio.com.

Both cost nothing.

I can’t believe the candidates are not yet doing such things.
