Where do we meet when it all falls apart?

Regardless of your sad tail of woes, this country is head and shoulders above the rest of them. If you doubt it visit a few.

The author is decribing the decay of the country and you're making comparisons. Your comment is completely irrelevant.

We really need three or four hundred statesmen right now, and an educated multitude to support them.

Sadly, we appear to lack both.

Excellent essay.

Many of those who believe they're receiving prophetic word from God say Colorado. I've been collecting contemporary prophecy off the web for years, and there is something of a consensus that it's somewhere along the front range. Years ago, they were saying they'd been sent dreams and visions of a war breaking out in the middle of the country, instigated by brown skinned people. This was well before any knowledge of an inland "port" at Kansas City could have been possible. They also say they've received warning from God for Christians not to participate in the slaughter. It's all falling into place, and it disturbs me to no end.

Make of it what you will; it's been laughed at and laughed off before, and will again, I'm sure. Are these people for real? They appear to believe so. Time will tell.

Kudos to your thoughts joanie-f. Our political class in many ways have forgotten what is like to be citizens. Principles bend couched in terms like ‘compromise’ meaning new laws are created that no one likes. Old laws are not enforced and black robed potentates on the bench bend the law to suit their own personal picadillos.

In the end the politicians forget from whence America came from. We were born of Patriots who believed strongly in limited government, not at all like the ‘sunshine’ patriots of today who just love spending Americans money like it is their own to ever expand the reach of government into peoples daily lives. Enough is enough, it is time to drastically cut the federal feeding trough and get back to the basics of promoting the rule of law as the founders intended as enshrined in our Constitution.

Excellent piece.

The largely hispanic invasion forces has at its disposal America’s fifth column residing in the White House, the Congress and at every cabinet level requiring ever vigilante citizen resistance.

On June 1 2001 the White House extended and invitation to the Western Growers Association in appreciation of their efforts in support of the “immigration bill”. In other words GWB acknowledged their buying power in the legislative market.

We now have to commit ourselves to stay informed about the continued efforts by this Fifth column to undermine the sovereignty of this republic.

Everyone needs to check their Senator’s and Congressman’s PR releases and schedule on a daily basis to see who can demand their attention and obedience. We, in each state need to see who is attaching riders that piece meal the components of this abomination to other bills.

And come the primaries, the electorate must be ruthless in pruning these fifth columnists from both parties. Let’s not be swayed by their cheap excuses. Their actions spoke louder than their PR effforts.

Send the SOBs home while we still can.

To be inactive at now is to assist them in laying a powder trail to an conflagration that will make CW-I seem like a playpen spat.

Interesting points. There are times I wonder if our country has "jumped the shark." If I was a betting man, I would say "yes it has" although it would be tough to place it when but if I had to guess, the 1960's. My father has been saying since 1973 that basically, "we are finished and I would live to see something else take it's place." He figured the collapse would have been around in 1985 or 1990 although I say he was a bit off but I think not much more than a generation so that puts us to around 2010 or 2020 maybe.

It seems there is a 200 year rule when it comes to empires. It seems so with the British Empire where you could say that it really took off in 1763 with the victory in the French & Indian War or for you Europeans and history purists, The Seven Years War, well, I'm a Pittsburgher and a lot of action in that war took place here and we call it the "French and Indian War." I also daresay that war was really the true "first world war." Well, I digress. If you add 200 years onto that, you get 1963, a date in which the British Empire lost most of its dominance and possessions.

Take the United States, if I had to put a date on which we really asserted our power, it was the War of 1812. Soem say it was a draw, perhaps that is so, but we did manage to hold onto what we have and told the British and other powers that we do have the will and ability to defend ourselves. Fast forward 200 years, you get 2012 and I think we will hit some critical point at or around that time.

What will follow? Atomic war? Balkanized CONUS with a "rump USA" sharing what was the U.S. with "Aztlan," "The Deseret Republic," "Ecotopia," "Confederate States of America," "Jesus-Land," and the "Congaree Socialist Republic." (with apologies to Harry Turtledove, alternate history writer, on that one) The USA still existing maybe but with a more limited projecting power as we concentrate on problems at home. A world wide Caliphate? The future is hard to say.

I like to base my thoughts and opinions on what is right or wrong, not left or right, or Donkey or Elephant. I daresay there are times the left has a few good ideas although I generally think most good ideas come from the right. It's a shame though that the left right now is causing a ruckus because their guy isn't in power. I wish we would stop all this hate from both sides but again, it is the very left that fails or will not understand that we are fighting for our lives here. If we lose to the point where the Islamic Fascists take over, it ain't gonna matter who's pro-life or pro choice, whether we need a single payer health system or not, or whatnot.

I say we still have a chance to shove Fonzie over the shark backwards, but time is running out and I'm afraid, I'm pessimistic on that. Still, it is our duty to survive to make it to the other side and hopefully jumpstart a New America from the ashes with our ideals.

Yes, sadly I am afraid there is nothing to disagree with in this essay, although I wish there were.

America is unique in history for preserving the freedoms of her citizens for such a long time. Two hundred and thirty years may not seem like a long time, but in fact there is not a single modern government anywhere in the west that has lasted as long, without revolutions and basic changes in their constitutions. There is not a single government with so many freedoms, for such a long time, although some of the other Anglosphere nations come close to it—partly by common inheritance of laws and culture, partly by imitation of America.

This may indeed be coming to an end. We are certainly at a critical juncture.

Gone are the patriots. In their place are prostitutes.

There once was a time when America's leadership represented 'the best' that was to be found among the populace. And the term 'public servant' had real meaning.

Now, 'the best' are to be found among the general populace, and it's fallen on our shoulders to (at least attempt) to keep our leaders in line.

Good comments. Thanks.

wow. what a wonderful piece.

one can never know warmth until he’s experienced cold, never know sweetness unless he’s tasted of bitterness, and never know freedom unless he’s tasted of tyranny.

maybe there has to be a taste of tyranny before freedom can be appreciated.

Fantastic, very well written. With what’s going on in this country, I do believe that Satan is alive and well, and has either served as President, or is about to, or both........

Amen.

Along the same lines, I recently received the following from a poster on another message board. I think he has it right, too:

As a vet whose family tradition (father and grandfather career Army officers, and now two children serving), I share your heartbreak over what has become of our political system and government. The only place you'll find "selfless service" as a credo in government today is in the military. Imagine what our country could be were all our leaders in government to practice "selfless service to the nation" and to require it of all others, with dismissal as the immediate sanction for noncompliance.

Thanks for the kind words, SJ.
