The Pennsylvania 11th has been represented by Paul Kanjorski for the last 22 years.
New Hampshire is brutal to frontrunners.
That’s my thinking too. And Ron Paul is almost the ultimate outsider candidate. For both parties. No one could ever accuse him of being a Washington insider. They’re ready to thump on both parties, I think.
And the tone of your post shows me you know nothing of Kansas or our politics.
Ryun is a bonified hero in my eyes(being a miler in HS) and deserves a second shot after sleepwalking through a horrible campaign last time.
If he's your hero because of his track and field career then fine, appoint him your high school athletic director. But we're playing for slightly higher stakes up here. Ryun didn't sleepwalk through a horrible campaign, he pissed away a reasonably safe Republican seat. He ignored the district for the past two terms. He stated for the record that he barely knew Mark Foley, only to have it come out that not only were they neighbors but they hosted block parties together. Now liars may prosper in Texas politics but we're a bit more provincial up here and don't take kindly to being made fools of by our elected officials. So keep your soft spot, you're welcome to it. I'd rather get back the 2nd Congressional district.
He is the best man for the job. Jenkins (who?) is weak.
He isn't the best man for the job. Doug Mays would be better and I'd love it if our esteemed Party Chairman could get him to run. Hell, I'd even take Thornburgh over Ryun, though he's more moderate than Jenkins is. And Jenkins isn't all that weak. She represented the area in the state House and Senate before getting elected as state treasurer so she has a base of support. No, she's not as conservative as some. Hell, she's not as conservative as most. But she's more conservative than Boyda, and in that she would be an improvement.
Ryun is damaged goods and would have a difficult time winning back the seat. He shouldn’t have lost it at all had he not gotten into trouble. Unfortunately, the party establishment is trying to foist social liberal RINO State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins to run against Boyda.
Politicians have been playing that game for a long, long time.
My concern about handicapping those races at this point is that I have serious reservations about the state of the GOP going into the election. Despite the colossal leftism and incompetence of the rodents, we as a party are anything but unified, and Dubya is inflicting maximum damage with the shamnesty crap. People that were popular and ostensibly doing the right thing until recently have jumped the shark. At the beginning of this year, I’d have said we would easily get back many of those seats, but until we see how things shake out in the coming year, anything could happen (including the massively unpopular rodents still managing to INCREASE their majorities). An awful thought, but it may very well happen. :-(
Yep, she runs right on amnesty as the Bush Admin (who won't seek election again) runs left. Thank God Fred understands the concept of border security first, or else the GOP would be doomed in 2008.
Hillary turned to the right too. In 2004 her conservative voting index was 0. By the end of 2006 she had turned to the right. Her Conservative Voting Index in 2006 was 9.
Just like Bill Clinton in 1992, they are running to the right of their opponents, knowing full well that their base will wink at it and vote for them with the knowledge that they will do "the right thing" for them, once in office. The manifesto of choice is the Third Way (Communitarianism) popularized by Tony Blair and Hillary!
COMMUNITARIANISM. A Third Way to a Good Society"
Of course, we like our candidates as "pure" as possible, and with some good reasons.
They fooled America last election. Could Americans be that stupid again?
Yes, sir, they can, and they are counting on it. And GOP elite is only willing or stupid enough to help.
Republicans should turn right to keep their seats.
“She plans to keep the word “Democrat” off her yard signs and rejects assistance from the Democrats’ national congressional campaign committee. “
Sorry, not good enough ... how bout not caucusing with Pelos/Murtha/Emmanuel, etc ... then maybe you can pass the “I’m not your typical Democrat” test.
