There never should have been any law outlawing it to begin with.

NO ONLINE GAMBLING!!!

So, because a small percentage of the populace can't handle soemthing, you propose banning it for everyone? So, a small percentage of people get into cars drunk, and then drive. Should all cars be outlawed for such? Your statement is ridiculous and certainly not well thought out. BTW< I do not gamble online, and very very rarely go to a casino. It's not just about online gambling, it's about liberty.

Just the opposite. The off-shore folks refused to tax winnings. The US gov’t couldn’t force them to pay. The US gov’t made it illegal for banks to fund off-shore accounts and for those accounts to pay winnings to Americans. The off-shore companies stopped taking bets from Americans. Try opening an account with Pinnacle. The off-shore companies, PUBLIC companies, lost tons of investors’ dollars.

Calvin Arye (of bodog fame) before he started taunting the government, was begging to be regulated and taxed in the United States and offering to build casino's here (part of his plea was creating jobs).

Bodog still takes bets from Americans (though its still not legal), is still offshore, and Calvin Arye is considered a fugitive from justice. He also mocks the government on the basis that he would, and his gambling operation wanted to, pay huge amounts of money if he could be allowed to do business in the United States.

Also, keep in mind, he has some kind of involvement, in some way with the current gambling case that is being dealt with in the WTO, as this is being viewed as a protectionist maneuver by the United States.

“calls for a system to be in place that would tax”

And the rubber meets the road.

First you said this: “I just want to protect the naive and impressionable.”

Then you say this: “I gather gambling is far wider spred than I had ever imagined.”

So in order to protect you in your naivity, I suggest we ban online discussion groups.

No, you've fallen into a nest of people that don't like the government controlling every aspect of our lives due to the frailties of a very small minority of others.

Or, if you like, you've fallen into a nest of people that don't like the government controlling every aspect of our lives based on the whims and wishes of a very small minority of others.

Have you ever really looked at how they got the original bill passed?

Yep, folks addicted to individual liberty are a cantakorous bunch!

Maybe you would be so kind as to answer my following questions, no one on FR that I have asked has ever answered them.

If you are willing to enforce your morals on society via the use of government edict, what value is there in gaining God’s rewards for doing so?

If I am forced to live a moral/righteous life by the barrell of a gun, how valuable is the rewards for living a moral life?

If God has granted me the gift of free will, along with the responsibility of living with the results of my choices, what authority do you have to take that gift and responsibility from me?

Why would you want to take the gift of free will from man?

And now you make broad accusations against your fellow FReepers with whom you disagree.

Tell you what, you have some irrational views which, to me, makes you sound like you may have a drinking problem. Therefor, I will assume you are addicted to alcohol.

Now everyone watch as the addict (Paperdoll) tries to tell us that he/she doesn't drink and totally misses the point that name calling adds nothing to the debate.

I am talking about gambling online. It is too easy for a person to get into it to the point where it becomes an addiction. Usually the people who become addicted are the people who can least afford it.

Exactly the same could be said of online shopping. Should that be banned as well?

Apples and oranges, ellery. You are certainly no Ellery Queen if you can’t see that. Probably just another addict in protest.
