I am looking at individuals though I did use a generalization since more Dems seem to be for this bill. I hold the Repubs and Bush in the same contempt but it is usually the Dems yelling about wage disparity, not the Repubs....we want equal treatment for all....

And, of course, they don't like that eeeeeeevil businessmen will make eeeeeeeevil profits. They're wealth redistributors, after all.

Excellent point. Although I most definitely do not support this bill, there appear to be an awful lot of Freepers who seem to have absolutely no problem using the full force and weight of the Federal government as long is it "protects" what they want.

I hate this bill on law-and-order grounds (uhhh, what part of illegal don't the amnesty supporters get), but still cringe a little bit when I hear conservatives begging for the government to save them from Leftist boogeymen like "wage suppression" and "multi-national corporations."

So long as Dorgan defends and protects the unmolested Constitution, and only that long, I like the guy—or anybody else.

OK, I’ll give HIM amnesty this week... ;^)

(If he protects the Constitution, the Constitution will protect legal workers.)

“wage suppression” and “multi-national corporations.”

If the government was doing its job and enforcing immigration laws, wage suppression would not be an issue.

Corporations could hire all the people they want at the prevailing market driven wages.

What’s happening is that through their lack of enforcement of the immigration laws, the government is short circuiting the free market for labor. That, I think, is what most people are angry about.

Surely you can see the difference.

Comingling our systems! Now I know congress and the administration, et al are not just owned by corporations. They are completely BONKERS.

On a totalization agreement, if congress doesn't object within a certain time frame, IT IS AUTOMATICALLY PASSED. This was one of those agreements made with Mexico without our knowledge. What else is new?

Hear the sound of founding fathers rolling over in their graves.

Loved it! I am partial to Dakotans to begin with but, there’s a democrat that makes sense. I’m down here stuck with Mel Martinez whose only talking point is: “theme parks”. Guess what? Before the illegal aliens came to Florida, Americans did work at the theme parks and the hotels. We should give away our country because of theme parks? I don’t think theme parks are a vital interest of our nation. And, at their ticket prices, they can afford to pay Americans for an honest day’s work. Americans are being pushed out of work, all kinds of work.

Well, gee, I guess no good Republican senators could have done the same?

They're afraid of being called racist by Hillary Edwards Obama.

“Have written note of thanks to this extrordinary man.”

I haven’t yet, but I will. Called and wrote to Sanders and McCaskill today. These Senators need our thanks and encouragement.

They all want to reduce us to serfdom. The Democrats want us to be serfs of the state. The globalist Republicans want us to be serfs of the multinational corporations.

Any more, what's the difference?

No doubt about it. My post addressed the issue of immigration law pretty clearly. If you are here illegally...get out(!) and re-apply the correct way.

Corporations could hire all the people they want at the prevailing market driven wages.

Agree, but they should also not be forced to hire workers at artificially high wages due to government mandates or interference; clearly, there is a strain of thought here sometimes that thinks they should as long as it "protects American workers" from global competition or other protectionist-speak.

My point (the one addressed to Moose4) is that people need to be very careful about getting into bed with the likes of Byron Dorgan; they may not like what they see the morning after.

“It appears that “Republican” and “Democrat” are now outdated monikers: it is now simply pro-America and anti-America (globalist).”

Yep. We seem to be seeing some major shifts in thinking.

Is that the same story he told in “rebuttal” to Cornyn? As though one could tailor a public law to fit one single event. Hell, all he has to do is introduce a private bill to help someone like this. Not he really gives a hang.

I didn’t hear any of the Senate wrangling till this afternoon and evening.

A Freeper told me that Kennedy’s remarks have been rehearsed for decades.

The old issues which have defined Dem and Repub seem to have taken a back seat this time, and maybe we are entering a new era with greater emphasis on labor vs capital. Of course, capital would like to see labor divided over traditional issues.
