Your closing quote is not proof that Senator Sanders approves of the “path to citizenship” in the current bill, only that he approves of a path to citizenship.

You listed a lot of ‘supported’ and ‘opposed’. He’s the President, not a Congressman. Which of these became law? Besides, the discussion was about today’s speech not a laundry list of the past.

“Bernie Sanders is a avowed socialist who wants nothing less than the destruction of our Republican form of government and the eradication of our Constitutional rights.

He may be right on this bill, but he is not on my side at all.”

It seems to me that opposition to this bill amounts to opposition to “the destruction of our Republican form of government and the eradication of our Constitutional rights.”

If, as you say, he seeks the destruction of our government and our rights, then he had only keep silent today to further his cause.

Okay, I disagree, but I'll grant that.

But how can you not see ANY path to citizenship for illegals as amnesty? How could such a path be otherwise?

So you will continue to defend him? Even though he has run as a socialist in Vermont for decades, even though people have provided you with plenty of material showing what his views and goals are, you will defend him?

If that is so, then you are a supporter of the only openly socialist in the U.S. Senate. That tells me everything I need to know about you.

Frankly, the demonization of President Bush around here makes me sick. It is pure Bush derangement syndrome and is indistinguishable from the lefty moonbats. Anything good he has done is immediately thrown out the window by single issue fanatics. The hyperventilating about the immigration bill is out of control. One can debate merits of various actions, but I guess people would rather indulge in doomsaying, demagoguery and character assasination rather than say anything constructive about the problem of 12 million illegal immigrants. As for labor unions, when have they ever been anything more than a drag on the economy. True conservatives don’t sneer at business or the free market for the sake of it. It is sheer ignorance and demagoguery. Just like criticizing oil companies for complying with the laws of supply and demand and seeking a profitable return on their society-helping investment in finding, drilling for and refining fossil fuels.

“He was eloquent and brave”

You misspelled “nasty” and “hateful”

Please explain how exactly this bill will destroy our Republican form of government and the eradication of our Constitutional rights? Talk about completely irrational demagoguery...

Well said-— whatever one thinks of President Bush, on every issue compared to Senator Sanders, he is the veritable Colossus standing astride a sniveling gnat.

A path to citizenship could pass through the illegals’ native country.

Senator Sanders articulated a view, in his remarks to the Senate today, which points to business as the driving force behind the Federal Govt’s open borders/cheap labor policy. I agree with him and I believe that force must be stopped for the best interests of the American people.

I don’t care about labels, or your disdain.

American labor unions were at their peak in the ‘50s when this was truly the land of opportunity, and our industries were booming.

I heard recently that Bethlehem Steel’s old plant is being converted into a casino, with thousands of slot machines. That’s real progress, thanks to the “free market”.

A good analogy, the Colossus was made of stone and is only a memory, but the gnat is alive and with us still.

The shocking and sad part is we are agreeing with Sanders and railing against Bush.

You're right - and it feels like a slap in the face...

He’s probably against it for ultra-liberal, not conservative, reasons.

He's a socialist. But I don't have to agree with his politics to find the amnesty bill stupid. I don't think you'll find a single average American who likes it.
