Boxer, Reid and Dodd voted no?
Nevermind, that’s Webb
Double letters and all that.
Reid probably did for procedural reasons. He can "realize" at a later time that he voted the wrong way and call for another vote (after time for arm twisting).
They still want to add amendments they think will allow it to pass.
I just spoke to Nelson’s office in Florida to oppose immigration bill. The staffer said that they had heard that the “bill was falling apart.” I asked her to tell the Senator to vote no on the cloture vote. She said Nelson always votes for cloture, Supreme Court candidates etc., always votes to bring it to a vote, but I still expressed that he should not bring this one to a vote. Good news is that some of the staffers have heard the bills falling apart and won’t come to a vote. Bad news is Nelson will vote for cloture.
Yah, Reid initially voted “Yea” and then switched so he could call for cloture later.
Well, good for Michigan! I don’t believe it.
I heard something last night to the effect that the House would rather the bill come to them as is so they can do the amendments. Does this mean that the House has to vote on whatever bill comes from the Senate and they have NO opportunity for amendments?
I don't believe it--something smells for sure.
Reid had to vote no in order to bring it up later.
Someone else switched between the first and second votes. I think it was Brownback, but I’m not sure.
The suggestion to shut down debate utterly failed.
These guys must really like to get out there and pontificate about immigration ~
House or Senate originates bill, other body then passes their own bill, then the two bills go to “Conference Committee” to unify the two into one bill the “Conference Report,” which is then voted on by both houses and signed by President. Think that’s how it works.
This may teach everyone in Washington that back room dealing and arm twisting can’t be used on a high profile issue such as immigration reform.
Consider the recent history. They negotiated this whole thing in secret, then came out one day and announced they had a bill. This was mid-May, I think? Then they said they wanted quick action to get it passed before Memorial Day. Why was there such a rush on a complex piece of legislation intended to deal with a festering complex problem?????
A situation like this is where you need a filibuster, in my opinion. Everybody take a deep breath and slow down. It’s too soon to go to a final debate and vote.
And of course debate this whole thing in public, not in a private back room deal. I think that has people upset too, the fact that RINOs and Dems. got together in secret and said this is the best we can do, vote right now!
i called stabenows office on the 800 pro amnesty hotline and said that although reform is needed, this is just a bad bill and needs to be trashed entirely. sounds like a whole lot of people did the same thing
Did you vote for K. Harris?
Auto workers and their unions dont like the bill?
