Sounds like a fun group.

Is it just me or does anyone else think there should be an open season on people who choose to dress like that?

If they came near my children I guarantee they would never look um... that good.. again

I guess you fit into the anti-freedom of association, anti-states rights, and pro-imperial federal government columns.

Per capita (16), but not the highest amount in the U.S. — not by a long shot. We certainly respect those who serve, have been injured or have died in combat. There has never been any question about that. I highly doubt the military in Vermont support this nonsense anyway.

Norwich University is in VT and save for the Burlington area, you will find a lot of conservative folks.

No thanks, not for the state nor it’s anti-USA populous.

By definition those who fight and die in America’s service are not those people.

How about a little discernment?

The ones who dress like that you can plan for... it’s the ones who dress normal you have to worry about.

Maybe I'm just in the anti-comparing-the-US-to-a-crackwhore camp.

There are other groups or movements around advocating secession for one reason or another, and they are quite serious. However, I believe before this Vermont thing, they were all in the south. South Carolina in particular, and some folks in Louisiana, have conventions and meetings every year to plan for it. I guess so far they haven’t made much progress.

I can think of several other states that need to secede as well.

I'd agree. That's why this isn't going to happen.

The resort towns in Southern Vermont also have a lot of liberals. When you get off the beaten path, it's a different story, especially in the "Northeast Kingdom."

I'm hoping Texas and Arizona, among others, secede if Congress won't secure the border. That way they can protect their own border with Mexico.

Great, no more fed dollars to Vermont.
Anyway, what’s to protect them when the federal government
comes in and forcibly takes the state?
I would guess the gang members/illegals would take over
before the feds did anyway.
What a bunch of thoughtless jerks.
The hand of the diligent usually rules the slackers.
(doesn’t matter what political/religious point of view)

Vermont was created by secession.

Yes and no. After reading The Young Hamilton, by James Flexner, I discovered just how complicated the issue was.

The colonial government of New York granted Vermont land to wealthy absentee landlords (patroons in Dutch), while the colonial government of New Hampshire granted the same land to smallholders who actually farmed the land. Ownership of land in those days was determined by who payed the property tax and who accepted payment. New York forced the issue by sending in sheriffs to collect the property tax, and Vermonters resisted by forming citizens' militias. Both New York and New Hampshire were polishing their swords and oiling their muskets to decide the issue when the events at Lexington and Concord occurred. Following that, both colonies agreed to table the issue until the larger problem with Great Britain was resolved.

Following the war, neither state had enough money and political will to force the issue, so Vermont became an independent republic with its own constitution.

In 1790, Lord Dorchester, the governor-general of Canada, opened negotiations with Vermont in an attempt to bring it into Canada. Before he was knighted, Dorchester had been General Sir Guy Carleton, the only British commander George Washington had actually feared during the late war. Due to British stupidity, Carleton had spent most of the war in Montreal, cooling his heels. Now he began his campaign to strangle the American republic in its crib, most of which effort was spent exciting Indian tribes along the border. Vermont was simply another opportunity for Carleton.

President Washington looked at the map and understood instinctively that a Canadian Vermont would be a British Vermont, which would be a salient -- a spear -- sticking into America with the head of the spear aimed squarely at New York. Washington had Secretary of State Jefferson write a letter to the government of Vermont giving it an ultimatum. Either it could apply for admission as the 14th state -- or Washington would send the army into Vermont, conquer it, annex it as a territory, and make it a state when he damn well pleased. Faced with this threat, Vermont broke off negotiations with Dorchester and applied for admission.

Power politics can be brutal.

After 150 years, some slothful Northerners now want a Confederacy.

WHAT DO YOU SAY, DIXIE-- SHOULD WE LET THEM SECEDE?

The Aztlan folks are keeping an eye on this case, I’m sure. That's why Vermont can't be allowed to secede. If Vermont secedes, then other States would start having secession movements. The problem is the federal government, not the States being United. Besides, the Demoncrats would never allow little Vermont give the Republicans control of the Senate. Nancy Pelosi would be calling for troops to be used to crush the "rebels." Finally, if Vermont secedes should we recognize the South as The Confederate States of America?
