I love Newt. He is the brightest man that is a potential and he has experience. i think he has a fire in his belly.

I saw him on TV a couple weeks ago lay out his immigration plan.

Unlike the current non enforceable plan our government is giving us he actually has thought it through to enforcement .

Much as I love Newt’s talk, his track record is kinda like Bush’s; good out of the gate, but he breaks down close to the finish line.

You mean they spike the ball on the one yard line? - Tom

You have to be a clintonista

You can disagree with me, but please don’t insult me.

no problem. but you have to give credit where credit is due. It was newt who gave the republicans their first congress in decades as well as the hope of being the majority party. the republicans pissed it away. what newt is doing now is showing the way back—and that without rancor.

Newt is a toe above Dick Morris. He’s a discredited former player who makes his living talking about politics. It must really burn him up that Fred Thompson has completely stolen whatever thunder he hoped to get for himself.

Are you kidding? Like a democrat would say anything good about Fred Thompson. Newt couldn’t even hack being speaker without having to resign. He’s unfit for the presidency.

Fred is ok. But you’ll never make the case for Fred by running down Newt. Newt has done stuff. Fred hasn’t done much but look and sound good. And if I Bill Clinton recall correctly, the master politician — didn’t make Fred look all that good either.

I’m running down Newt on his own merits, and have been since before Fred became a phenom. I’m simply noting that Newt’s faux coyness about entering the race is now much ado about nothing.

Newt’s an opportunist. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that criticizing GWB will get you further than trying to ride his coattails. Coattails? Hell, GW’s bum is showing. Newt’s doing this for Newt.

> Fifty percent of this country NEEDS TO BE LECTURED over and over until they realize that this is America, and not Venezuela or Cuba.

We don’t need a hectoring fishwife, which is how Newt sounds to me...

> This country needs STRONG, NO-BS LEADERSHIP in Washington and tough people who can make it happen who are more concerned with America than their own personal politics....

Agree here. Maybe Fred is the one (although Duncan Hunter would suit me fine!)

Half the electorate voted for Al Gore for president.

Methinks you mistake your own personal pet peeve - itself juvenile - for what most of the country is like.

Whichever — but that person MUST be able to, and willing to fight, to beat Hitlery. Unless you want a red flag, with a yellow hammer and sickle on it flying over the White House....

I’m sure he is running. But his campaign is much ado about something since he is using the same winning formula ie the contract with America— that gave the republican party control of both houses of congress in 1984. So you can argue with the merits of the contract with america or you can say you just don’t personally like Newt but it wouldn’t be make sense to say that the contract with america didn’t happen or that it wasn’t a winning formula.

That said, I do understand that Newt —like Hilllary —would enter any presidential campaign with high negatives. Curiously, Hillary’s high negatives don’t seem to phase the democrats.

I think the significance of the Contract w America is overblown. Regardless, you're talking about congressional elections, where you need to win the votes of citizens in a few counties. That's not that big a deal.

Once ppl got to know Newt, they didn't like him. He has no chance at being president.

I think you under rate the significance of Newt’s achievements and over rate the pull of Fred’s personality.

But if it came to a toss up between Fred & Hillary I’d go for Fred. But for a real fright fight family feud I’d prefer Newt & Hillary.
