A lot of Americans are skeptical about immigration reform primarily because they don't think the government can fix the problems. And my answer to the skeptics is, give us a chance to fix the problems in a comprehensive way that enforces our border and treats people with decency and respect. Give us a chance to fix this problem. Don't try to kill this bill before it gets moving. Give us a chance to make it easier for the folks who wear the uniform along our borders to do their job.

--

(shakes my head, who would have ever thought it would come to this?)

He can “Blue Sky” all he would like, his book is close to being written and I don’t think the ending will be flattering to his time in office.

And ICE is active. Your folks are working hard. ICE investigations have led to more than 3,000 arrests for immigration violations since the beginning of this fiscal year

Twenty one million illegals and ICE can only find (trip over) 3000?

No employer I ever worked for would call that good hard work.

Should Chertoff be given amnesty for allowing terrorists to prowl at will in America?

Mr. President, you are correct, I don’t believe the government can fix a damn thing. So, why don’t you meet us halfway. You prove that the government can close the border and then we’ll talk about your precious amnesty program.

""A lot of Americans are skeptical about immigration reform primarily because they don't think the government can fix the problems. And my answer to the skeptics is, give us a chance to fix the problems in a comprehensive way that enforces our border and treats people with decency and respect.""

From 2005:

Bush budget scraps 9,790 border patrol agents -- President uses law's escape clause to drop funding for new homeland security force

Bush=Liar

"Enforcement" doesn't need "comprehensivity". That's Bush's linkage trick to get his despicable American-hurting dream laws passed.

Bush has purposely undercut enforcement for years to help his buddies depress wages. Only last year did he pretend to do enforcement.

The lies roll off his tongue very easily these days. A very deceitful man, though in a clever way I never thought him capable of.

Once the MSM relents that this bill's opposition is not just demonized "conserviatives" I think it's finished.

In other words, we've taken our duty seriously to protect the border of the United States of America.

President Bush, that's just flat-out insulting.

Cut the BS and enforce the law.

I join you in the head shaking.

Leaves one totally speechless. And yes still shaking ones head.

In the seventh year of his tenure in office, the oft referred to as "Leader of the Free World" pandering for what - a chance?

"America ... Where are you now?"

“President Bush, that’s just flat-out insulting.”

He lies to us right to our faces.

Ironically there is much he lies about but the Democrats seem obsessed with the WMDs, which all the intel agencies believed existed.

::::
BS tokenism. Useless tokenism. And it shows how committed Bush is to NOT ENFORCE OUR BORDERS.

I really, really take issue with the phrase “some people don’t want to do what’s right for America...” (pauses to regain composure) Like you so often say, Mr. President, I think we have an honest difference of opinion and I respect your right to believe the way you do so please respect my right to do the same without insinuating that those who disagree with you on this issue are not trying to do what’s right for America as you claim you are. It’s just as likely that those of us who feel strongly about this feel that what you’re attempting to do will be harmful for America. We tried this approach in the 1980’s and what happened? The Federal government ignored it’s duty to protect our borders, created entitlement rights for illegals and then forced the states to pay for the entitlements without any Federal subsidies. There’s an old saying “fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me” and like the song goes “we won’t get fooled again”!

What the president says

Our nation depends on our federal agents to enforce our immigration laws at the border and across the country. You've got a big job to do; we're counting on you to enforce those laws. And when you graduate from FLETC, you're going to be an important part of that role. That's why you're here; it's to upgrade your skills so you have the capacity to do the job the country expects you to do. You're going to safeguard our ports of entry, you'll investigate workplace immigration violations, and you'll arrest those breaking the law. We are a nation of laws, and we expect people to keep the laws. And if they break the laws, there will be a consequence.

In other words, we're working hard to enforce the border. And we're stepping up enforcement inside the country. I see a lot of ICE hats. These are the folks that are charged with making sure that people who knowingly hire somebody who's here illegally pay a price. In other words, part of making sure our country is a rule of law, we've got to have people enforce the law. It's against the law to hire somebody who is here illegally. That's the law. And we're training people here to make sure that they know how to enforce that law. And the message to employers, if you're hiring somebody here that you know is illegal, we're going to -- there's a consequence to be paid. That's what a nation that bases its system on rule of law does. That's what we'll continue to do.

The first step to comprehensive reform must be to enforce immigration laws at the borders and at work sites across America. And this is what this bill does. For the skeptics who say that we're not concerned about border security or workplace enforcement, they need to read the bill. The bill prioritizes enforcing our laws at the border, and saying to employers, we'll hold you to account for employing somebody who's here illegally -- knowingly employing somebody who's here illegally.

Mr President if you gave a damn about the rule of law the current laws would have been enforced. There is no mechanism ready , nor will one be ready in 18 months to monitor visa holders to the country to track them and make sure they leave,.
There is no program on place to make a "tamper proof "ID card ( if the is even possible)

There is no plan in place to monitor the Z visa holders, or deport any that are law breakers, there is no program in place to monitor the temporary workers to assure they return home at the end of the time period.

The only sure way to delay and slow the illegal flow ( a wall) will never be funded, and this bill allows you to declare when the program can start. You are free to eliminate those triggers.

Mr President, having you as a President has been a disaster for the average American. We have learned we have to watch your every move and read every line carefully if we hope to preserve this nation .

No bill until YOU prove that the current laws can be enforced and the wall constructed.

signed
A former Republican
