Five tons, depending on the type of fertilizer, will run you from $280/ton to $360/ton,

That just sounds like a lot of work and risk for a very small profit.

Crossing the border, across some of the most inhospitable desert, just to work for minimum wage sounds like lots of risk for almost no upside, yea?

Stealing fertilizer (and likely unloading the truck by hand) is entirely in keeping with the south-of-the-border outlook on life.

There was someone stealing railroad sleepers up here in the high desert, selling them at a landscaping store. They’d haul them back to town from 50 miles out of town in a clapped-out Chevy Luv pickup. They sold these sleepers for something like $4/per. This is one of the many strange things that crank heads do while tweeking.

When you look at what each of those U.S. dollars will buy in their home countries...there is nothing but upside.

Can’t let the folks get worried. Tell them that it’s nothing. Just a theft. Nothing to do with blowing up buildings. Can’t upset the public.
