You answered your own question.
The goal was to convert over to an older less efficient formula (134a)that was still under patent.
I still prefer r-12, I can feel the difference.
It seems to keep the interior dryer which helps it last longer, less mites & mold,etc..

The goal was to convert over to an older less efficient formula (134a)that was still under patent. And the useful idiot greens went along, no matter that "less efficient" means you still have to use more HP thus burning more gas, making more CO2 (and water vapor, a major greenhouse gas, btw) to get the same btu's moved from one side of the door to the other!

A N D , if you had a perfectly good r-12 system converted over w/o your permission by a "good intentioned greeny"
("& they wonder why they get shot"), you spend thousands in the ensuing years for new compressors, etc., because they neglect to understand the non-miscability of the different oils used in the different systems.
Also, 134a is very corrosive, that's one of the reasons it was shelved over half a century ago in favor of the newly developed and yet to be improved upon r-12!

-think about this.......each person needs CO2........it helps control the pH balance in the body.......NO CO2 and the body does not function right............it’s called homeostasis...
