I hate it when a thread gets highjacked.
That’s it for me.

I don’t think anyone here’s a xenophobe, Chez, it’s just that conservatives prefer a society that respect law and order. We don’t mind the immagrants being here. We just want them to be here legally.
They should go home and come back in the front door, if they want to come back.

I believe I am right that the word “racist” was not coined until 1968, and it was first used to refer to the campaign of former AL Governor George C. Wallace.

There are many other law and order issues facing this country, but I don’t see the overreaction like I do with immigration. People need to calm down and start thinking.

THIS is your 'obscure charge' of racism, but I've seen much worse from you.
I am very sure that a good number of people on this forum are more angry and hate filled toward President Bush and Jose the illegal immigrant than toward Osama Bin Laden and Mahomoud the islamic terrorist.

A vote for a third party is a vote for the Democrats.FWIW, I don't buy that. I think a third party would draw from both parties. Just look at the mayoral primary election in Hazleton, PA. Some issues transcend party.

Seditious?! I presented it a practical solution and you call it Seditious! Just unbelievable.
Eventually, you guys will realize that you are much less in numbers than what you think, there are many of you on FR but in the real world, you are a very tiny minority. You guys could not even help JD Hayworth get re-elected in Arizona where according to you guys the vast majority of folks there has had illegal immigration as their number one priority. You guys were, are, and will remain wrong beyond belief.

There was a reference to Al Sharpton. What else was I supposed to think?

I believe he gave up on GWB after the ‘06 elections.
I have not heard him today, nor have I been to his web site yet, but I saw posted that he sees this as a disater for the Republician Party. A complete disater and gives the ‘08 election to the dims.

Where did I use the world Racist in the post that you showed. If I think someone is racist I will tell it straight in his or her face and do not do in an indirect manner, that is not my style.

I have a 1966 dictionary that has “racist” in it. I don’t think the word was used in politics until Wallace, but I stand corrected. The original meaning meant one who considers his race superior to others.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that the government should know about millions of people commiting a crime against the United States and just “calm down”?

NRO Corner has a few other Statements:
Mitt Rmney:
I strongly oppose today's bill going through the Senate. It is the wrong approach. Any legislation that allows illegal immigrants to stay in the country indefinitely, as the new 'Z-Visa' does, is a form of amnesty. That is unfair to the millions of people who have applied to legally immigrate to the U.S.
"Today's Senate agreement falls short of the actions needed to both solve our country's illegal immigration problem and also strengthen our legal immigration system. Border security and a reliable employment verification system must be our first priority."
Rudy Guiliani's press secretary released the following::
"Rudy's top priority and main objective is to ensure our borders are secure and to stop potential terrorists and criminals from coming in. The recent Fort Dix plot is a stark reminder that the threat of terrorism has made immigration an important matter of national security. We need to know who is coming in and who is going out of this country if we are going to deal with those who are here illegally.
IMO, the most interesting reaction is from Senator Cornyn - I thought he helped negotiate this bill:
"While I appreciate the hard work by my colleagues as we spent countless hours negotiating this very difficult issue, I have serious concerns with the principles outlined in todays announcement.
I simply cannot, and will not, support any legislation that repeats the mistakes of the 1986 amnesty. So we have to make a basic determination: Will this bill restore respect for our laws? Or will it have the opposite effect, and encourage still more disregard for our immigration and border security laws, placing us within a few years in the same untenable position were now in?
I believe todays announcement is somewhat premature because specific legislative text has yet to be drafted on a number of key details. Until I have the opportunity to review this text, I will withhold from making more detailed comments. Clearly, however, there will be an opportunity to introduce amendments to this legislation, and I expect there will be a number of areas where that will be necessary.
