Hitchens is just jealous of God. He wants to be the judge of everyone and everything.

God Bless the good Reverend, Jerry Falwell.

I think most of us here would agree we're a bit rougher around the edges and Falwell had little personal influence over us. But I sure recognize his steady leadership and his good charity. I appreciate his service for this country.

His Liberty University has a very good legacy in place. Great things already happen there.

First, let me say that I appreciate Hitchen's contribution to defending the war effort. He also writes very well.

Then he does something completely stupid, like writing a long-winded, meandering book about the non-existence of God. You know, it would really mean alot to him if we'd all just stop believing in God!

It's for kids.

The discussion was about whether 9/11 would bring revival to the country:

September 13, 2001 telecast of the 700 Club

JERRY FALWELL: And I agree totally with you that the Lord has protected us so wonderfully these 225 years. And since 1812, this is the first time that we’ve been attacked on our soil and by far the worst results. And I fear, as Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense, said yesterday, that this is only the beginning. And with biological warfare available to these monsters — the Husseins, the Bin Ladens, the Arafats — what we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact — if, in fact — God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.

PAT ROBERTSON: Jerry, that’s my feeling. I think we’ve just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven’t even begun to see what they can do to the major population.

JERRY FALWELL: The ACLU’s got to take a lot of blame for this.

PAT ROBERTSON: Well yes.

JERRY FALWELL: And, I know that I’ll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way — all of them who have tried to secularize America — I point the finger in their face and say “you helped this happen.”

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, I totally concur, and the problem is we have adopted that agenda at the highest levels of our government. And so we’re responsible as a free society for what the top people do. And, the top people, of course, is the court system..

JERRY FALWELL: Pat, did you notice yesterday the ACLU and all the Christ-haters, People For the American Way, NOW, etc. were totally disregarded by the Democrats and the Republicans in both houses of Congress as they went out on the steps and called out on to God in prayer and sang “God Bless America” and said “let the ACLU be hanged”. In other words, when the nation is on its knees, the only normal and natural and spiritual thing to do is what we ought to be doing all the time - calling upon God. ~~~

PAT ROBERTSON: > Amen

....."Great Lincoln quote."....

Yes it's great to remember others that have said the same as Falwell. It is through bigotry and hatred that we fail to learn from the past or even God. The Old Testament was written for many reasons, but one of the greatest was to show the "character" of God. God destroyed people and countries for their evil. The "flower child" God that people imagine doesn't exist. The basic stories told about the Jews in the OT showed that bad King= bad times and defeat. Good King= good times and victory. If we take God out of the court rooms, school houses, and governments of America, why should we expect blessings from God? If we tolerate homosexual behavior, abortion, fornication, adultery, etc, why would we not expect to pay for it? The law of reaping and sowing has never been repealed.

To say 9/11 happened because of our stiff necks, could be presumptuous, or it could be the wake up call our nation needs. Remember the large church attendance for a few weeks after 9/11? The government didn't have to mandate we go back to church, some just felt it was "time" to start.

I for one, wish Robertson and Fallwell, (and more recently the pope), would stop apologizing every time someone objects to what they say. If what they say is based on the teachings of God, why apologize when pagans are confronted with their evil? If it wasn't from God's Word, why are they saying it? We can at least discuss what they meant by their statement and decide the wisdom, or lack there of without having a conniption just for them saying it. The kneejerk bigotry and hatred people feel for Fallwell, Robertson, and now Bush, keeps us from deciding if their can be any merit in what they are saying.

When I mentioned we lost the war in Viet Nam and never lost a battle, I had all kinds of flack (on FR) when I pointed out the fact that we had drug problems, free sex, abortion, and removal of prayer and all things "God" in America about the same time we lost a war to a backwater 3rd world swamp. It wasn't a reflection on the troops, it was a statement that you reap what you sow. Murdering 50 million babies and glorifying sexual abomination will have to be paid for some day. God is patient, but consistent. That should frighten people, it just doesn't seem to enough.

When a Muslim sets off a mushroom cloud in NYC or DC, will it be because the UN messed up, or maybe the CIA was asleep, or because America has failed to repent? It just depends on Who you believe is in control. America has been blessed beyond all countries in the world since it's beginning. If you study the founders, they never imagined we would turn from God because that was the reason we were founded. My opinion is the further we get from God, the more "bad things" will come about. You can place blame wherever you want, but God is in the middle of "plan A", there is no plan B. If God is never changing, then we will pay for our indiscretions. People can be saved before they die, but nations will reap the wrath they deserve. As an individual, I can be saved, but I may die living in the middle of Sodom when the storm comes. If over 80% of Americans believe in God, why are we still arguing over abortion, homosexuality, and fornication, in our political debates? They should be settled in the minds of everyone running for public office.

Falwell and Ron Reagan should never be uttered in the same breath. Falwell had nothing to do with the success of President Reagan. Let’s be real.

Without Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority, Reagan would have always been known as Gov. Reagan, and I and tons of other today’s conservatives would still be voting D.
