The day I heard Joel Olsteen back away from Jesus Christ and the true biblical Word on Larry King was the day I discovered he was not who I thought he was. Joel wants to be everything to everybody. He is a feel good Pastor that needs to preach the Word, all of it. He gives you what you want to hear as long as his church is full.

I haven’t heard about this. Can you point me to a link?

I will agree with you, he is not a Gospel preacher in the way the term is typically used (i.e. of the type that I hear when I attend worship later that day, after I watch Joel). And his “invitation” at the end of his sermon — “Friends, we believe if you pray this simple prayer you’re born again” — is plain doctrinal error.
However, I don’t see Biblical error or selfish malevolence in his message the way his most vocal detractors do. The Great Commission commands us to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel”. (”Push” evangelism.) But we are also commanded to “let our light shine” and “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you”. (”Pull” evangelism, if you will.) This is what Joel Osteen is about, IMHO.
It has been a while but it was discussed here on FreeRepublic. My family (almost everyone is a born-again Christian) were appalled at his words.
Check to see, I will do it also, in FreeRepublic by Larry King Live/Olsteen. Also, try to google it and see if anything comes up. It was sometime last year but I will try to find it for you. I know they had a transcript of the conversation.
Ok, I just googled it. Larry King interview with Joel Olsteen, and it came up. The whole transcript. Read it and let me know what you think.
Take care.
It was in 2005.
Whaddya mean? Howard is very devout - I saw him say on TV that Job was his favorite New Testament book. (Really, he did.)
