Thats alright have fun at my expense I can afford it more than you can!
“How did he become a “man” before time began?”
We don’t know; we haven’t been told that. Frankly, such speculation is kinda pointless when there’s plenty I still need to learn about the little stuff, like, oh, faith. For what it’s worth, I think the true nature of the concepts of “time” and “eternity” are a bit beyond mortal man’s grasp.
“Was he a “man” on another planet who “became” God after going through a mortal test on an earth like ours?”
That is not LDS doctrine. It is an opinion held by many Mormons, due to several statements by past leaders. LDS doctrine neither confirms nor denies the idea Again, it’s not necessary for our salvation.
“There are no paid clergy in my Church. Oh, maybe thats the rub.”
Oh yeah, I’ve sure seen a lot of starving Bishops out on the street corner panhandling. The Mormon Church is just as corporate as the papacy. Oh wait, I guess all that commercial land being bought in SLC is going to be given away to stakeholders.
“I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Prove it Saundra. Go ask for the idol atop your church spire to be replaced by a cross - put Jesus first. If you do that, I will believe you are unashamed of the Gospel. Until then I think it is obvious you serve Baal.

Not a cross in sight.
Oh goodie! I get to go to bed earlier tonight, the Utah game is the first game tonight! It’s coming on right now and I don’t have my meal ready ... gotta hustle.
“Thats alright have fun at my expense I can afford it more than you can!”
Let’s see, I believe you are the one who launched a tirade against my “loony grey matter”, so playing victim won’t wash.
It is not an opinion held by Christians.
Well, FC, I suppose if you’re going to discount the Book of Mormon in the grounds of something so superficial as grammatical construction - even though the construction is quite conformant to high-end writing styles of the time (after all, everybody learned to read out of the KJV Bible), then that’s up to you.
Personally, I’ve found the truths in the book to be valuable in my life; they have helped me find a higher degree of happiness, joy, and knowledge; and I know through prayer that the book is, along with the Bible, the word of God.
Remember, Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon in two months. You try putting together something like that in two months, and we’ll see if it withstands the tests of time and criticism as the Book of Mormon has. We’ll see if it is the catalyst to building up millions of faithful followers across the planet.
Also recall, the Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets, not by Joseph Smith. They utilized chiasmus and other literary techniques that were quite accepted amongst the ancient Hebrew literati - even if they seem unfamiliar and awkward to us. Not bad for a New York farm boy with a 4th grade education.
135, eh? Good for you. Maybe next year you’ll beat me. :-P
Come now, FC. I’d be willing to venture a guess that the vast majority of FReepers are significantly above average intelligence.
“Go ask for the idol atop your church spire to be replaced by a cross”
Our churches don’t have anything on top. No cross, no statue.
“It is not an opinion held by Christians.”
With clever repartee like that, how can we NOT hang on your every word?
Nope I not the victim just because one is a boor I just conside the source!:)
“Did anyone mention that there is no such language as reformed egyptian?”
Of course not - in the Old World.
Different continent, different languages. I would suppose it would be derived from the Egyptian originally brought over by Lehi and his group.
I am sorry to say, the Gospel of Jesus Christ does not have much in common with the LDS. I’m sure many Mormons would like them to be one and the same. But they are not. There is no way that orthodox Christians can be convinced that the LDS represents the biblical Gospel of Jesus Christ. There is a chasm between the two. And I really am sorry that this is not clear to Mormons. I guess therein lies the deception.
“The BoM depends on faith all right. Blind faith, and Im not talking about the rock band from the 60s with Eric Clapner either.”
You complimented my humor before, I must now return the favor :)
Abigail, this is the disconnect. We don’t seek to convince you. We’re here to correct misconceptions about our faith.
You go and believe as you wish; I won’t bother you. But grant me the same privilege, I implore.
We fully and readily admit that we aren’t orthodox in our Christianity. But we believe in and follow Jesus Christ nonetheless.
