"Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi, a former major in Saddam Hussein’s army, was apprehended as he tried to enter Iraq from Iran...."

I'm sure the EU-twits and our own Demagogues will innocently believe that he's never had anything to do with anything.......no matter what, he must be treated the way Pat Leahy wants him treated..... the EU will soon be issuing demands that he be treated most gently, with 3 square meals and maximum comforts. Who cares about all the vital knowledge he possesses of Al Qaeda's networks, principals, and plans???? We can't disturb his beauty rest, can we?

a former major in Saddam Hussein’s army, was apprehended as he tried to enter Iraq from Iran

And there it is.
The whole story in one sentence, and the salient point of the whole situation in Iraq.

The Iraqi gov't has this guy on their most wanted list. They say he is a member of the Ashura Council. This is AMZ's old group. Since it is an umbrella organization so this guy may actually have info on several groups.

Key leaders:
Abu Maysarah al-Iraqi
Abu Umar al-Baghdadi
Abu Ayyub al-Masri

Groups in the council:
al-Qaeda in Iraq,
"Jaish al-Taifa al-Mansourah" (Victorious Sect Army),
"Saraye Ansar al-Tawhid" (Ansar al-Tawhid Platoons),
"Saraya al-Jihad al-Islami" (Islamic Jihad Platoons),
"Saraya al-Ghoraba" (the Strangers Platoons),
"Kitaeb al-Ahwal (the Calamities Brigades) and
"Jaish Ahlul Sunna wa al-Jamma" (Army of Ahlul Sunna wa al Jamma).

This is crap. Announce on Friday so it can be old news by Monday. Should be announced on Monday along with a press conference featuring the CinC making the announcement. Also point out that this is the anniversary of the fall of Saigon, and reiterate the danger of the Reid surrender bill. Then the 'craps send their surrender bill up on the anniversary of "Mission Accomplished". CinC vetos the Iraq surrender bill and announces, Mission Reaccomplished. Point out that they gave Saigon to the enemy, they will not give America to the enemy.

Hey George, how about doing it? Past time to play hard ball with the 5th column.

Might find some additional info at the link at the bottom...

Believed to have been a senior al-Qaeda operational commander planning attacks around the world.

Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi
Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi: Arrested in late 2006

The US said he was on his way to Iraq to take over al-Qaeda operations when he was arrested. His detention was announced by the US on 27 April 2007.

Formerly a major in the Iraqi army in the 1980s, he fought and ran training camps in Afghanistan.

Believed to be a key contact between Osama Bin Laden and killed Iraqi al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

Reports said Abd al-Hadi al-Iraqi was also involved in plots to assassinate Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf.

Great post. Tony Snow, if you still read this site, please note the hardball politics eloquently expressed in detail in this post.
