Liquid Benadryl is the trick. That way you can totally titrate to the dose needed at that particular time.
A small amount under the tongue. Wait 30 minutes. Repeat as needed.
Man, I’d hate to be possibly conked out if I needed my wits about me in an in-flight emergency.
I know several people that have tried Ambien with no effect whatsoever. As for me, when it starts to kick in I had better be in bed. Normally, taking generic Melatonin works great and takes about the same amount of time. However, some nights I need a little something extra to put me down.
I was on Ambien for several years, with Paxil for a kicker. Now, I’m on EffexorXR only.
No more wild stomach problems. Sleep OK. Sometimes, too much. But then, I’m OLLLLD.
That and a glass of red wine, and I'm sleeping through a house fire.
I think it’s shameless for Barr to use the V-Tech incident as your lead-in in this article. It misleadingly suggests that Cho Seung Hui took Ambien before going nuts.
Do you have RLS or are you just one of those folks that have a hard time getting to sleep?
LOL! I doubt it.
and there's no reason for it either as i love my job etc. so it's not work stress related.
Maybe Ambien could explain Ralph Fiennes and the...flight attendant.
IIRC, a story in the NY Times said Cho was taking anti-depressants, but it didn't specify an SSRI.
If so, Ambien and an SSRI would certainly cause some crazy hallucinations and other problems.....
I have no problem burning someone who was drinking alcohol and taking prescription drugs that they asked a doc to prescribe and then cause trouble. I have trouble with the government compelling drug therapy in certain individuals, e.g. Chris Pittman, and then when folks become manic, the government just ignores the facts that a persons metabolism appears to be main factor for how they respond to SSRIs.
Niquell is the way to go. Take it early enough so it’s out of your system BEFORE you need to get up. You get a good night’s sleep and, best of all; it doesn’t make you psychotic!
Darn those 3 AM roll-call votes!
“...the government just ignores the facts that a persons metabolism appears to be main factor for how they respond to SSRIs.”
Bingo!!! Good point...
As long as there appears to be a long list of incredibly credible FReepers out there that are admitting to the taking of this particular product...
I believe, and hope I am in good company in my admission as well...GASP! Steve takes sleeping pills!!! OMG!!!
And as a funny...I just took one 5 minutes ago...I plan on getting a really good quality sleep tonight...Thats all, nothing more...No strippers, no homicidal tendencies ever...No wierd psychodelic dreams or hallucinations...Yes, I have gotten up in the middle of the night, but that was due to pressing matters...I do not believe I have to explain anything there...
I’ll say it again...
Cho was a selfish introverted little brat that couldn’t handle getting picked on, so after years of abuse (puleeze) he decided very coherently to “pop” and take out his meaningless frustrations out on innocents...
What a pathetic waste of space and time he was...
Was it his fault that he was that way??? Nope...He made a decision to do this...
Were drugs a factor in his commisioning of this crime??? Nope, the drugs he had would not “tell” him to do anything that he didn’t already have in his mind to do, nor would they have “helped him do this...
The freak even tried to feel like he was a player in buying the services of a hooker/escort days before he committed this crime...Another pathetic act on his part...
He didn’t have the money, nor the means to buy in cash the instruments of his decision...He bought them off the line of credit on his card that he was probably only suppose to use for legitimate purposes...Another pathetic self-imposed doom...
I feel no remorse or need to excuse or analyse this loser, nto do I extend sympathy to him for his pain...
Lots of people live good productive lives and have many successes and failures that they deal with that are similar to this guys short life...
If Ambien is ALL the MSM can come up with to give investigators yet another meaningless direction to have to look at, just because they say so...How pathetic is the world we live in today...
I think I’m going to go doze off now...The buzz is kicking in...
Don’t bother looking in the headlines tomorrow to see if Steve goes on a homicidal rampage, because it just ain’t going to happen...
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz g’nite!!!
Geesh its early!!! It “was” a hard week!!!
See y’all in the morning!!! Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed!!!
Ambien has been a God-send for me. I used it continually for a few years (under supervision, of course.) Now I only need it occasionally. NEVER had any problems with it. Then again, I did what they tell you to do. Be ready for bed and a full eight hours sleep, no alcohol, no driving, etc.
When I used to travel some guys took a lot stuff like that. I tried one sleeping once, and had some really crazy dreams.
After that it was two beers and good book if I couldn’t sleep.
Because it's hogwash and doctors have enough sense to know it. There is no "weird-behavior-while-sleeping risk" with Ambien, just unscrupulous drunks and unethical lawyers.
Ambien is described as a hypnotic or a sedative/hypnotic. SSRIs are selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, the class of antidepressants that include Zoloft, Prozac, etc. The FDA recently mandated that SSRIs have black box warnings on them. Large numbers of folks, including maybe more than thirty percent of Blacks and Chinese, have been identified as slow metabolizers of these drugs. They need much less than the usual doses of these drugs. Cho was reported to be taking an antidepressant. ANTIDEPRESSANT CASUALTIES happen to include many of the victims in school shootings in recent years.
Bob Barr shouldn't have involved Cho with his article.
...include many of the victims in school shootings in recent years.
For each person who commits violent acts how many take these drugs without problems. In the case of the Columbine murderers; they build bombs in their garages. The problem was less the medications and more the disengaged parents.
