Well, his record isn’t imaginary, and neither is the ideological common sense he expresses in his radio commentaries. I’ll back him if he runs. Hunter is better ideologically, but he needs to get moving.

I would really like to see Thompson/Hunter in '08. That could position the Conservative movement to lockdown the WH through at least 2020, and give D. Hunter the "executive" experience that some of the harpies keep whining about. Short of FRed jumping in, D. Hunter is the way to go. Blackbird.

The answer Thompson gave does not show Thompson to be pro-abortion.

It simply shows that, in 1994, he would not put a woman in jail for having an abortion.

Some pro-lifers are looking to ban the procedure, not imprison women for having the procedure. We would imprison the doctors, but not the women.

But even if you think that’s stupid, being opposed to putting girls in prison for HAVING abortions isn’t the same as supporting abortion, or even being against restricting abortion.

I imagine a lot of pro-life candidates would lose that label if we used “would you imprison women for abortions” as the criteria.

My personal view — the first laws for banning abortion should not put women in jail. Once we have the procedure banned, the doctors won’t learn it, the clinics won’t exist, the women won’t have easy temptation, it will no longer be “acceptable”.

If at that point there is a major problem with abortion being done illegally, and there is no other way to stop it, I would consider punishing the women.

But that is a question of tactics, not goals.

And if you wanted to argue he was pro-choice, he SAID it. It scared pro-life groups, and one sent a representative to discuss it with him in detail. Having discussed it, that pro-life organization ENDORSED him as pro-life, something they don’t generally do with pro-abortion candidates.

Since that day, Thompson has voted 100% pro-life, and his statements on the subject today are decidedly pro-life, with of course a touch of federalism.

Thompson most certainly IS not pro-abortion (which is what I said was the lie). It also seems clear he was NOT pro-abortion in 1994, or even pro-choice, or even thought women should have a right to abortion.

Certainly you don’t think your video proved that Thompson “IS” pro-abortion today. SO I don’t know why you posted it to “refute” my assertion that “Thompson is pro-abortion” is a lie.

BTW, assuming maybe incorrectly that “HunterFan” means you support Duncan Hunter, could you tell me: Has Duncan Hunter said he would put women in jail if they have an abortion? I don’t remember reading that anywhere.
