I’m as glad to see her go as anyone, maybe even more so because I think I’m a bigger fan of Elizabeth Hasseleck than many on FR.
But I also work in an industry that has a compensation differential like entertainment where the top people make several thousand times more than the average, and personalities at that level matter a great deal.
While all of this might be a reasonable backdrop to what went on at The View, I’m cynical that it’s a reflection of the actual decision making. It is exceedingly rare for someone to make a decision that will effect the earnings of a project based upon some personal agenda. It does happen... it’s just very rare. And the people who do that inevitably damage their credibility when they do.
BW may be giddy that she doesn’t have to put up with a blow hard bully like Rosie anymore, but I seriously doubt she would push her out the door over a personal issue. She may not work as hard to keep her, or let her shoot herself in the foot somehow, but if she pushed her the way this reads then it would hurt her reputation in the business, and she’s too smart to let that happen.
This sounds to me like the kind of thing produced by the rumor mills run by those who have never been in a senior position. From the lower half of an organization it looks like the people at the top have complete autonomy and can do whatever they like, but it's never so. Stockholders and investors have a much tighter grip on big decisions like this because they have expectations that must be met. That's what drives corporate decision making more than anything else, and Rosie's negotiation and departure is no different.
With all that said, I think it would be great if it were actually true... I just don't believe it.
And now they’re stuck with her and the ratings keep tanking.

A REPLACEMENT? HOW ABOUT ANN COULTER? AND PERHAPS ONE OTHER CONSERVATIVE, THAT WAY THE SHOW WOULD BE FAIR AND BALANCED.
AND, HERE’S ANOTHER GREAT IDEA: MC DONALD’S HIRES ROSY TO PITCH ADS THAT SAY THEIR FOOD ISN’T UNHEALTHY!
April 26, 2007 -- SO if the world is again on Rosie- watch, no, it was no surprise to Mama Bear Barbara. Yes, Barbara knew well in advance. Knew even before we all three stepped onto the dais at the Waldorf-Astoria Grand Ballroom Monday for me to receive my Matrix Award, Rosie to emcee the Matrix Awards, and Barbara to present the Matrix Award to Arianna Huffington. It was strictly solely a money and contract issue. One side wanted more years, the other side wanted less years. One side wanted more dollars, the other side wanted less. It was ABC's call. Barbara does not make those decisions. OK?

Reality 101. Nothing happens at View without BW’s blessing. It is HER show. In fact, very little happens at ABC w/o her blessing.
It was wrapped in a $ issue, and in some ways, it was. Has RD taken a significant pay cut, (which would have been leaked to other MSM) so the world would have seen her a “put in her place,” and the loser in the BW battle, along with statements of regret over the MATRIX incident, it could have been saved. But RD would have been clearly, publicly and semi-willingly put into a position of semi-servitude to BW.
BW had two ways to win here, Either RD goes or she she stays as a whipped puppy. BW won either way, RD lost either way.
Her #1 crime was crossing BW.
There were four people you did not cross at ABC, Roone, Av Westin, PJ and BW. PJ and BW settled their turf wars in the aftermath of the Charles-Diana wedding coverage so they had no problem (PJ the 51% winner) but you couldn’t mess with either one.
Cindy Adams go easy on a friend....?
Do you seriously question that?
I was kidding. No I don’t believe Cindy Adams. I just don’t understand why she said anything about it one way or the other.
Liz Smith glossed right over the entire situation in her recap of the Matrix Awards.
It’s the OBN.
Old Broad’s Network.
BTW, don’t agree with her politically, but BW is a GREAT OB.
:~)
