It seems like my impression is the same as a few other long time members.
Huh, Odd?

“But there are an equal number of instigators on both ends. Anyone who acts like it was only the fault of the Evil Rudy Supporters simply isnt being honest about things.”
I will concede that I don’t know the posting history of many of the participants on this thread. But from what I’ve read, and gathered of past history, the conflicts weren’t just a result of this thread, but a long time on going history of conflict.
The point still remains though, that nearly all of the banned posters decided it was their ‘day in the sun’ to make as spectacular an exit as they could.
The disrespect for not only options, but the owner of this site, was prevalent from the beginning.
The fault, although not apparent in some cases, , was hugely obvious in the others.
And they were generally the banned posters.

I just found it today! Good grief... 9659+ posts and I'm the last one to know. So are the Rudybots all gone? Many of them, certainly, and others who were espoused other liberal causes. And some who were just extremely bad-mannered.
Clearly we missed an epic thread!

I think that where this is leading is that those who have used FreeRepublic to push something fundamentally contrary to the concept of conservatism have lost their springboard for pushing their views. They will have to go to some other forum to advocate their positions.
I am a libertarian who votes Republican most of the time and identifies with conservatism most of the time. Posting on FreeRepublic has never been a problem for me because, to the extent that there is any divergence between my libertarian views and the prevailing conservative views of this website, I do not use this forum to advance any contradictory positions.
That's really not so hard to absorb, is it?

I think that using the term "swiftboating" takes away from the magificent work the Swift Boat Vets did for all of us. It sorta puts it in a negative way, ya' know? I did not use that term to describe this, Jim Rob did. I do understand your point, and maybe we should come up with another name for what we are doing.
To the left, Swiftboating is a pejorative. To the right, Swiftboating is revealing the truth about a liberal trying to pass himself off as something he's not. So since our audience will be Republicans, I don't think the term Swiftboating is a problem - but a new name would be nice.
In the case of John Kerry, the Swiftboaters showed he wasn't a war hero.
In the case of Rudy, the new organization will show he's not conservative. Maybe we can call it RINO-tizing?

whatever led to their leaving or banning I'd have to say that was a combination of things. And I think most of them still hold the same values as when they were doing so much for the GOP. That's the problem. They were more concerned with the GOP than with conservative values. Those used to go hand in hand, but have recently split. Some stuck with conservatism, and some stuck with their vision for the GOP. A lot of conservatives are happy to see them go, because they used their time here to beat up on conservatives.

My opinion too, Jeff.
Freerepublic will be better and stronger in the end for standing up for our collective conservative principles.

They were more concerned with the GOP than with conservative values.I'm really beginning to wonder just how much of the conservative movement many of them embraced. The last seven years have been a constant battle to keep them from dragging FR too far leftwards.

Jim, I of course never expected that you would support a) a candidate; or b) a principle, that went against your consistently expressed philosophy.
You have also, in the past, discouraged rhetoric and accusations (a/k/a flame wars) that thrive on other parts of the internet.
It seems that THAT means of operating FR has gone by the boards, at least for now.
I have no dispute that you can run your site however you see fit, and I'd like to stay.
But as for the Presidential stuff - I can't clearly see the line that one can't cross, and it's probably better for me to stay away from those threads.

I dont like Rudy, but I like what I see happening here on this thread even less. It is Lord of the Flies territory at the moment on this thread. Wheres the next head to stick on our spike?I agree wholeheartedly, Rob. I just got back on here, and the high-fiving and woo-hooing over long-time Freepers being banned is not sitting well. It has become an echo chamber.
