Nothing wrong with an occasional iconoclast... So what about the last stand at the Alamo... Or the Spartans at Thermopylae...

Typical incompetent reporting.
Where was it found?
Any prosecutions on the horizon?

If you believe the legends, the Alamo delayed Santa Ana and Thermopylae delayed Darius, leading to crucial strategic advantage. I'm not sure if that's really true in either case, but at least the side that sacrificed claims some advantage from the loss. I don't think anybody has ever pretended that the revolutionaries gained anything out of the life or death of Nathan Hale, outside of his silly but memorable last words. To be an effective martyr, you should have at least done something worthy of martyrdom.

Excellent...when I lived in Manhattan, I would leave flowers at the base of the plaque on July Fourth weekends.

He was hung there since at that time this area was a clearing in the woods and the Brits set up camp around there.

Um...Santa Anna and Xerxes of course. It’s a Friday afternoon and I’m jetlagged...what can I say... :-)

Nathan Hale may have died bravely, but he was an incompetent buffoon who accomplished nothing for his cause. His bravery didn't mean squat in the end.

Seriously, I think "incompetent buffoon" is not the most appropriate choice of words. By his actions, he has inspired several generations of Americans. He has provided an example of courage that many have sought to emulate.

“Obviously bravery is preferable to cowardice, but I’ll take competence over bravery any day of the week.”

But that’s not what you said. Twice even.

No doubt this was done by the UConn UComm, (as in Communist) students up the street. I think they need another Ann Coulter visit...and a spanking.
