Yup. I just wish when these guys think of this, feel a little humility instead of getting every bit as dogmatic as the worst examples in religion can get.
For one, Dawkins does not profess that there is absolutely no God. Rather, Dawkins believes that it is highly unlikely that a God exists, but acknowledges that there is no way to totally disprove the notion, just as there is no way to prove that there is a god. In reality, he lies on the edge of agnosticism.
To an earlier post, Dawkins systematically reviews some of Aquinas’s proofs in his book The God Delusion.
I tend to doubt the report that Dawkins has sent Atheist literature to schools, which seems to be the product of a bit of bias. What Dawkins to believe is that children should be free to choose any belief system (be it Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Atheism, etc.), rather than be indoctrinated early on by their parents.
It’s interesting how deeply angered some Christians (or members of other faiths) are by Dawkins work. Besides the fact that your anger betrays Christian teachings, shouldn’t you be more open to these kinds of discussions? If your convictions of the existence of a personal God are so deep in the face of so much ambiguity, who is the arrogant one?
Also, I recommend listening to the debate podcast.
Oh, my. I recognize that bit of sophistry from my own "agnostic" days.
Just to put your mind at ease about his beliefs, you can check Mr. Dawkins' very own website for this handy List of Atheist Resources.
On the other hand, this post says a lot more about you than you probably realize.
