Made it home finally. 1070 miles round trip to watch 800 miles of racing. LOL

Qualifying was a blast! They sent us UNDER the stands right before they called it all off. I wanted to "shelter" in the garage area, but they wouldn't let me so I left with the alarms going off. Talk about fun driving! Through rain, hail, 90 mph winds, blowing tree limbs, signs but unlike the movie, I didn't see any airborne cows. :(

Busch race was cold than ..., Cup race had just plumb be-utiful weather! Was great.
Did get some pics, but I am going to fall out first.

Here you go guys, through rain, hail, thankfully no snow, dark of night, yada yada, delivery of the pics.

Pardon the music, I'm tired.

Wow thanks ST for putting that together for us. The pics are great. You even got the Busch flyover that ESPN decided we didn’t need to see because tennis was on.

Were you sitting in the “PL” section? If things are more calm in November, I may try to go up then. I’m familiar with the PL 100 Row 200+ area which has the best view of the pits and track.

Roadrunner really has a nice pic show! Of course you need good pictures to put there and you really have great ones!

Now if we could all figure a way to have Scotty just beam us up there instead of driving so far things would be perfect. :)

snip~ From Lee Spencer [no relation]

Earnhardt commentary crossed line

But commentary should be backed up with fact. If Teresa Earnhardt “gave” Dale Jr. the opportunity to race, then Spencer must have penned the screenplay to ESPN’s “3.” If Dale Sr., who had a lot of respect for Spencer as a racer, were still alive, there wouldn’t be any discussion of where Junior would be racing. A racer would be running DEI, the Juniors — Dale and crew chief Tony Eury — would have never been separated on the No. 8 car and the resources would have existed all along to win championships.

What struck me as completely heartless, though, is how Spencer could make these comments just weeks after the Earnhardts and Elledges faced a near-death situation with Kelley. I can forgive Spencer’s “stand-by-your-man mentality” about a woman’s right or desire to retain her maiden name — considering that he doesn’t travel in academic or business circles — but if he had seen the relief on the faces of Dale Jr. or Jimmy Elledge in the days following Kelley’s surgery, he would never have ventured into questioning her character.

Kelley has been Junior’s rock since childhood. Unlike some of the nepotistic clowns that have Peter-principled their way through the garage, Earnhardt Elledge earned a degree in business from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. And unless Spencer has been privy to the discussions between the Earnhardts and Max Siegel, how can he judge her skills as a negotiator?

The children are only asking for what is rightfully theirs — the company Dale Earnhardt built to leave to them. And should Earnhardt choose to leave, it won’t tarnish his star at all. Junior’s fans just want to see him win. Whatever decision offers Junior the best opportunity to win, the fans will follow. Just ask Mark Martin.

The sentiment Kelley offered last week about her emotions before surgery illustrates the siblings’ relationship perfectly.

“The first thing that went through my mind is I don’t want my brother to have to go through losing someone again,” Earnhardt Elledge said. “He would be on his own. He’s lost that one person that he trusted immensely, that he looked up to immensely, and I can’t imagine him going through that again.”

Trust your own judgment. Does that sound like someone whose ego is out of control? She sounds like a selfless, loving sister. In return, after hearing Spencer’s comments on the air, Junior’s first call was to his sister.

Spencer issued an apology on Speed Channel’s “Victory Lane” last night — and as with any commentary, the opinions of the guests do not reflect the viewpoint of management. But Mr. Spencer might want to think twice before he calls Lesa France Kennedy in Daytona and advises her to drop “France” from her name.

The PL or PU designates lower or upper, the break is about row 27 (I think). Then the number, 401 north, 101 south, are at the start/finish line, increasing as it goes out.

Qualifying, or practice and storm as it turned out, was PL401, about row 20. Busch was PL420, row 20, and Cup was PL411, row 20 for the first part, then PL20something backstretch when I joined the other FReepers.

Have to get busy now. :(

I want to be one of those NASCAR officials that looks for lug nuts not being on. Where do I apply for that job?
