IRAQ NEWS, SUNDAY, JULY 25, 2004
I. UNWILLING VICTIMS, ABC NEWS, JUL 23
II. THE FIGHTING IN RAMADI, LAT, JUL 25

As ABC News, Jul 23, reported, regarding the violence in Iraq, the director
of intelligence for Central Command, Brig. Gen. John Custer, explained, “The
big myth is that the foreign fighters are everywhere, that there are
thousands,” Custer said. “My feeling is that that’s largely that Arab street
[spreading the myth]. That’s the story everybody wants to hear, and Iraqis
don’t want to admit that some of [the bombers] might be Iraqis.”

Biggs, our boy Custer LOVED his tour at Meade.

I get your drift. We were sent overseas for 18 mos at a time. Most all of it was in Danang and since we were a group that had limitations on the number of personnel in country, promotions were quick to offset the hardship and long hours and no liberty. When rotation rolled around, three of us, two Navy and a Marine, remained in Danang rather than head back to Meade. Saved my chevrons.......those who went to Meade suffered a loss for any minor manufactured offense. Salad envy usually the cause.

(Don't want to sound too negative.......there were a lot of good guys there too.)

"Custer Had It Coming" the bumper sticker says at the Gift shop in Lakota Sioux Territory.

This new Custer may be cut from the same bolt of cloth.

That’s our boy. Finger-in-the-breeze intel. What will make the command group smile.

>>Soon to be a story as some tried to tie her to Abu-Gharib.<<

Wasn’t a colonel who reported to her the highest ranking officer punished over Abu-Gharib? I think he was found to be physically present when a terrorist was tortured to death so its expected the press will bring up again what she knew or should have known about what went on in her command.

(BTW, General Fast was exonerated on the dereliction of duty charges after Colonel Pappas claimed she encouraged the abuse)

I was in MI from 1978 to 1993 and don’t remember anyone calling the ACSI or DSCINT “Uncle”. I was an SSG in the intel watch (DAMI-FIO) portion of the Army Operations Center in 1980-82 and use to deliver the morning briefing book to COL S. Weinstein when he was the ACSI XO, and later I gave the briefings after we ran short of Captains as team chiefs and I was made a team chief with another SSG working for me. I ended up applying for and recieving a direct commission to Captain and shipped out to MIOAC in May of 82.

I can’t remember the name of the Ft. Huachuca Commander then, but a couple of months after my class graduated, he retired from the Army, was caught sleeping with his female aid.

OK, you guys have been pretty rough on Custer this whole thread. I worked for him at Red Clould when he was the 2ID duce. I was a specalist at the time and he was a LTC. While I was there no one in the entire G2 had anything bad to say about the guy and I still have a very favorable opinion of him.

A lot of these posts are mention knowing Custer as an LT. Keep in mind that much can change from butter bar to two stars. I would only ask that everyone keep an open mind and a wait and see attitude and give the guy half a chance.
