Perhaps it is his weakness relative to the President's STRENGTH that makes him so angry.

And, it looks like his son has somehow become stronger than he as well.

At some level, he must feel shame.

Well, if you ask me, it sounds like Dowd was willing to take all of the perks, but when things got hard (like, you know, having a family member serve in Iraq) he suddenly wanted no part of it.

This sort of sounds like the Insane Senator Webb, who is somehow blaming the President because his son enlisted and is in Iraq.

I also think Dowd is looking for work with democrats since the next election cycle has begun. How better to curry favor than to stab the President in the back...they will probably give him the DNC medal or something.

One thing I know about President Bush...he is partly Scot, and like all Scots prizes loyalty above most character traits. Mr. Dowd will find out that those who are steadfast with the President (like us) will not be buying his little book.

I spit on the ground he walks on. Feh!

You are most welcome!

I thought you were joking about the cold snap, and then I saw the news. Yikes! It's supposed to be 92 tomorrow, so I won't get a chance to wear mine until November. :(

Track 13?

You’re right. Somehow his son managed to see the purpose of President Bush’s plan despite his father’s feelings. It’s sad that now that his son is in the military, he’s decided to trash the mission.

**I also think Dowd is looking for work with democrats since the next election cycle has begun.**

I didn’t even think of that! I bet you’re right. What a creep.

The reason you haven't seen me much lately is that I have grown quite tired of wading through the anti-Bush, anti-Guiliani, anti-Romney, anti-everybody threads full of juvenile insults and mindless criticism.

I have better things to do with my time, and lots of times when I do check in it's late and I just read and don't reply.

Everything is fine here, except I am in a desperate effort to save my garden. After almost two weeks of 70-80 degree weather, a polar front is moving in and by Saturday they are predicting the temperature will be 19 degrees. Most of my perennials are up and many will be severely injured, if not killed, unless I can cover them enough to keep them warm. I have dragged out every pot I own and will be out in the 40-degree weather tomorrow covering them with dirt and pots. Some of these are plants I got from my late grandmother, my late father, and my late mother-in-law and I have kept them going for over 20 years. My roses also have to be protected and I will have to cut some back so that I can cover them. I can't do anything about the ornamental trees...they will lose all of their blossoms and hopefully will survive. I am SO AGGRAVATED! WHERE IS THIS GLOBAL WARMING I WAS PROMISED???!!!!???

I don’t have any heirloom plants like you do, but my row of hydrangeas are leafed out—and I have seen tons of tiny flower heads. For some reason we had an off year last year—but this looks like a bumper crop—so you know that I will be out with my sheets covering them up—I am not about to let them freeze! It looks like the freezing temps will be here in N. Georgia on Thursday night. Rats! Let us know how your plants fare!

They're both cowards.

And even us Swedes value loyalty.....and courage.

Is there a Democrat anywhere other than Joe Lieberman who has either of those qualities??

You'd think he'd think enough of his son enough not to do that.

I guess their politics supercede their love for their families.

Wonder why the son rose above his upbringing.

How do you cover daffodils without crushing them, Miss Marple?

We should be fine tonight, but tomorrow will kill them, as well as the tulips if I can't figure something out.

MATTHEW DOWD stabs the President in the back and is taken to task for it by Jeffrey Lord

I don't think J. Lord has quite gotten to the bottom of Dowd's disaffection. I don't think we ever hear the whole story on stories such as this.

How could a man go from saying Kerry's Kave-In Kalamity proposals are not good, to saying Bush's policies are not good? What changed in either politician's stance? They haven't changed but it looks like Dowd may have changed his views on the war -- or some other unnamed topic -- and then changed his views on the president ... that Dowd was no longer getting what he wanted out of the working relationship. This type of situation always makes me look for the smoke of some perceived or real personal injury, resulting in the former employee having an ax to grind.

No. Lots of wind and light rain, but no storm.

It's in the fifties now..........dropped 20 degrees in a couple of hours and not done yet.

Where do you live?

Our daffodils took a huge hit two weeks ago when we had about eight inches of very wet snow. We call it Sierra Cement. We also lost a quaking aspen, and the tops of two birch trees. The trees really upset me.
