" To achieve what you suggest is our goal in an Islamic republic that has NEVER known Democracy or provided human rights as a matter of course -- is a fool's errand, without FIRST destroying MOST of what currently exists ..."

It took hundreds of thousands of years to invent the first wheel. How long do you think the second one took? Surely you are not suggesting that the only people who can have decent standards of self-government are those who already do? Perhaps I'm sounding to you as though I think this is simply a matter of pushing a magic button; I don't. I understand that what we are talking about is very difficult, and involves a great deal of very hard and dangerous work. It's just that I believe 2 things to the bottom of my soul: 1) we can succeed in this endeavor, and 2) we must succeed. The survival of our culture and your grandchildren depend on it. I know the analogy isn't a perfect one, but Japan went through huge changes in a short time following WWII, which I think is very encouraging.

I know that you are right that there is a great deal of tearing down and rooting out that has to be done, but making changes that allow people to forsee a better future is just as important. Things like establishing clear title to real property so that people can actually own something that they can borrow against, and giving people recourse to protection and redress other than tribalistic hit squads, which will help build an allegiance to priciple above clan.

If we can establish an Islamic republic that allows people to have a stake in a modern economy and sets a model for peaceful coexistence, at least among Muslim sects, we will have offered a quarter of the world an alternative vision to what the Wahabists are shoving down their throats without oppostion. If we can't show them a different way to be, we have a world of trouble, because as the jihadists say, they love death more than we love life.

I have to say that I am with you 100% on protecting our Culture, Language, and Sovereignty here at home. The dissolution of our southern border makes a mockery of the Rule of Law, threatens our personal and collective security, and is a betrayal of the American people of the highest order. It must be stopped immediately.

I never served my country in uniform. I wish now that I had. I would have helped make my country a better place, and myself a better person. I have the highest respect for those who have put themselves at risk in my place. I hope that all that has been so nobly given will not be in vain, that future generations will be able to look back at this time and know that what they did made the world a better place.

God Bless.
