If they come back having been tortured in any way, there will be hell to pay.

I have to question that statement since everyone near this war seems weak-kneed
and spineless. Accept for the troops fighting it.

I don't think that has been the case, otherwise, it would have never been authorised in the first place.

Britain seems to act when they feel their prestige is on the line (e.g. the Falklands). This is one one of those times.

Unless there is a sudden change in British leadership, the muzzies have nothing to fear from the effeminate, limy fops.

You don't want to provoke an all-out war with a nuclear superpower; you want to slowly erode support, erode strength of will, and erode legitimacy. Eventually, all that will be required is a small push and your enemy is demolished.

The Iranians do not view Britain (or the US) as a "superpower." That could change (it's not going to happen, but it would be very refreshing nevertheless), if Britain simply pointed out that the Iranian's had just committed an act of war; that the Iranian's had 24 hours to return the British servicemen, alive and unharmed, with their equipment and weapons; and that if the Iranian's failed to meet the deadline, Britain would strike every Iranian military target within reach with nuclear weapons. The Labor Party could simply explain that Britain no longer has the forces necessary to address an attack such as that launched by Iran in any other manner.

They would get their servicemen back immediately, and completely humiliate the Iranians in the process, but - as I noted - it's not going to happen...

The Britain I used to know wouldn't put up with this Muzzie bulls**t.

Let's see if the UK still has any collective stones or not.

They know they can get away with it as long as Tony and the left are in charge. They wouldn't be pulling this crap if Maggie were still in charge.

Britain could sure use Maggie now...

Snatch three ayatollahs. Impale two, as the proof of earnestness, and use the third one as a bargaining chip.

I like the gist of your idea, but I say snatch 100 ayatollahs, impale 99 of them, and then fire the 100ths head into Iran from a 16" rifle. After this, say we will come for the rest if they don't kowtow.

Intelligence sources said any advance order for the arrests was likely to have come from Major-General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards.

This jerk needs a permanent attitude adjustment.

Subhi Sadek, the Guards’ weekly newspaper, warned last weekend that the force had “the ability to capture a bunch of blue-eyed blond-haired officers and feed them to our fighting cocks”.

Yeah? Really? Punctilio requires that the U.S. follow Britain's lead on this one, but I sense a bulldog straining his chain here. These guys are about this close to getting an ugly-ass education whose redeeming feature will be its permanence.

As an American, I can say I've really, really had it with these asshats. I first encountered these guys back when they were "students" doing the bag-over-the-head thing and "protesting" in the Student Union at the University of Oklahoma in 1973. I spoke to one of them and got an immediate and abiding impression that these are bad guys, tough guys, and that they respected neither our country, nor our insitutions, nor even the idea of education. After Khomeini came to power they all went home and joined the Pasdaran. Many of them died in the Iran-Iraq War, but here it is 35 years later and we're still putting up with some of these same guys.

Don't forget to mention that the Pan Am bombing over Lockerbie was supposed to have been an Iranian contract job farmed out to the Libyans through the intermediation of Syrian Air Force intelligence officers and the respective governments.

The Iranian government is playing with a weak hand and bluffing badly. They're outnimbered by their own oppressed citizens. Bombing from one direction while a civil war blooms from within is NOT a position any government wants to be in.

I say, let's make sure that things end as badly as possible for them.

And on our way out the door, let's make sure we blot up as many of these hardshell Pasdaran types and mullahs as possible. We owe them going way back.

Oh, the list is long and bloody. I don't have the time to document all of the atrocities these savages have inflicted ignoring all of the International Laws and moral sanctions that are usually used to restrain nations. They've been getting away with murder for so long that most people don't see any reason to change tactics.

Just logged on - so this may have been addressed...

But with today's satellite imaging and pinpoint GPS technologies, why hasn't the exact location been photographically demonstrated and mapped for public consumption????

Anyone know???

Also, this makes me wonder what the cargo really was on that Iranian ship that the Brits stopped....

I wish our troops were in Iran instead of Iraq...maybe we can insert some parliamentary language in a bill (hidden somewhere around the spinach and shrimp deals) that "redeploys" our troops right into Iran.

They declared war on us in 79 and it's about time we start fighting back.

Naah, Iran would think it a bluff... and try and call it.

Only to find themselves in a nuclear hell come morning.

Give Iran the 5 prisoners they want and get our 15 people back. Immediately after, sink the entire Iranian Navy like we did in 1988 when Iran decided to intercept oil shipments and shoot at tankers.
Make sure to start with their brank new sub and then proceed to their Frigates and gunboats.

"My guess is that Iran has decided to capture the British soldiers as part of a larger strategy."

My thinking is that Iran saw the Russians pull out and in the very near future saw the potential for a potential US bombing campaign to eliminate various nuke sites...Nothing like having a few Brits placed at these facilities to serve as human shields and provide insurance against same. It would be a massive PR disaster for Blair if the US did the bombing run and killed UK Marines in the process. Talk about dividing allied partners.

I think Iran is trying to lure the U.S or England into attacking them before Irael decides to clean up their mess.
